If someone was buried "under the act" in1935, am I correct in assuming this was a paupers funeral?

Was there a charge for a baptism?

Maybe that's why I can't find some of my relatives baptisms. But I have come across multitude baptisms before.

Modem, I have had an email from Alex at FindMyPast and my account is now active and I have also had my 10 refunded.

Maybe if you still have a problem let them know, however I get the impression that they have resolved the issue now.

libby9,thanks for your suggestion I will contact them in a day or two regarding an extension, maybe by then thing's will have quietened down a bit!

I am unable to access the records and have sent them a message but as it is the weekend I can't do any research. >:(

It quite clearly states that my subscription runs until the 3rd March 2016 - that is what I have paid for.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thank you for the info. snowyw. I'm now subscribed until March 2017, having also taken advantage of a previous offer from details posted on RC.

A very welcome early Christmas present! ;D

Hi June, Hocking is a good old Cornish name! But it is St Just in Penwith or St Just in Roseland that you refer to in your post?

Good luck with your research; I haven't, as yet found any Hocking's in my family research but one never knows :)

Kent / Re: Place near Minster in Thanet

Fordwich (near Canterbury) is reputed to be the smallest town in England. Minster on sea is on the Isle of Sheppy, and does sometimes get confused with Minster Thanet. Take care not to confuse the two when researching :)

The Lighter Side / Re: BBC 1 WDYTYA: Series 11, Episode 6, Mary Berry

I enjoyed this episode, one of the best in the series so far.

As I understand it the programmes are, and always have been made for entertainment. I don't think the BBC has ever claimed they were produced for the "serious historian".

However, if it has encouraged some to take up the rewarding pastime of family history research, then surely that's a good thing.
