Thank you Geoff E! This is a fantastic service! and really useful information; I now know the places of birth of John and Susanna senior. I am so impressed by Roots Chat and people's willingness to help out. Thank you both.

Thank you so much. This is really interesting. I didn't know about Lizzie Garness - she doesn't appear in later Garness census returns, so I guess she may have died, or married before 1881.

Is 12 a rather young age for a servant (Eliza Gash)?

Would it be possible to search for the same John Baker in the 1851 census? He would probably have his wife Susan or Susannah living with him, and more children as well, e.g. Susanna Baker aged about 15.

I would be very pleased for any help in locating John Baker in Sleaford in the 1861 census. John is said to have been born in 1795 and died in 1863. He had 8 children all of whom are thought to have married by 1861: John, Jane (Stennett), Ann (Bennison), Mary (Law or Lane), William, Elizabeth (Malin) and Susanna (Garness). By 1861 John was a widower. He was a builder by trade. His death in 1863 was given as West Street, New Sleaford.
