I am hoping that someone can decipher or translate the childs name from this 1689 Maltese baptism record, we believe that the family name is Sillato and that the parents are Marruzzio Sillato and wife Dominchella but even with the childs name appearing on the record twice I still cannot work it out - GedB

Thank you Maiden Stone with that I now have the name of the young man being baptised and confirmation of his parents Antonio and Maria, the place name in question by the way is Birkirkara (several spelling variants) in Malta - GedB

I would be grateful if someone could decipher the middle name on the 1759 baptism record for Paolo ????? Sillato and then translate the document from Latin

Thanks - GedB

Family History Beginners Board / Re: maltese connection to East end

There are several sites that list Maltese family names but I cannot see anything matching so it is a possibility that both were children of serving British military personnel from British/British or British/Maltese parentage which would make them British rather than Maltese. Maps show that Burmula is a district within the old Valetta fortifications where the military were based so the military line is a good chance. I believe that FindMyPast still list overseas military births so it might be a worth seeing if anybody can have a look on there as a starter.
Good hunting - GedB
