Shropshire Lookup Requests / Archives look up no2
« on: Saturday 26 May 18 11:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm a different person but if you are at the Archives at Shrewsbury can I ask for a look up of the Hearth tax for Much Wenlock.
I just want to know if there are any Parsons in the parish.
I know there is a print of each parish in a folder on the shelves but I'm not there to take a look.
Any help appreciated.

Lancashire / Looking for Uncle Bill
« on: Monday 30 April 18 11:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Someone has asked me to look for their Uncle Bill Davis .
Difficult name and I'm not having a lot of luck.
William Davis was born Sep qtr 1921 in Salford  s of John Davis and Jane Conway .
By 1939 his dad is dead and his mother is living with Albert Jones her new husband.
There are several entries blacked out and William  could be one.
He was a pilot in World War 2 so may already have signed up.
He had two children .One a son went on to be a teacher in Cyprus.
He died sometime after 1971.

That's all she knows.Any ideas?

Monmouthshire / A Nativity Conundrum
« on: Friday 01 December 17 13:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hello rootchatters
Perhaps one of you can help me with this little problem.
I have a Walter Barney Seale born in Weobley Herefordshire  Sep 1879.
His mother is given as Williams and he appears with parents John Weale Seale and Rachel Williams married Hereford Mar 1865 on the censuses .
In 1911 he is in Tredegar with his 'wife' Maud nee James.
They have 4 children in Tredegar from 1911-1920 but never marry.

Walter's war record has the birth dates of the children and Maud crossed through as next of kin.
Added is mother Mrs Margaret Walker ,39 Albert st ,Aberdare.
When he leaves the country for Canada in 1922 again next of kin Mrs Walker now of Albert Inn Aberdare.
On his marriage in 1926 mother is again Rachel Williams.

So who is Mrs Margaret Walker?

Rachel is widow  at Tredegar on the 1901 and then disappears. She was born Mar 1841 Hay registration of Llanbedr/Llanstephen Radnorshire .Parents seem to be William Williams and Elizabeth Haynes.

Any one fancy a go at Who is she?

Staffordshire / Samuel Medley born c 1770 Dudley living at Tipton.
« on: Thursday 27 July 17 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello all
Can anyone help with Samuel Medley?
He says on the 1851 census he is 81 and born Dudley.
He married 1793 at Kingswinford Mary Saunders and he had a daughter Hannah 1795 at Dudley and possible sons Samuel 1798 and Edward 1800 at Bilston.
He fails to appear after 1851 and I assumed he died in 1857 but that appears to be his grandson .I can find no death and no birth that fits.

There are 2 Samuel Medleys joining the army -one born 1769-76 Old Swinford from 1795-1817 and the other born 1776 in West Bromwich from 1808-1817.
Presumably they are the Samuel Medleys bapt O/S 1776 s of John and Mary and Wednesbury 1773 s of Richard and Susannah Medley .
I don't fancy the Wednesbury one as there is a Samuel and Elizabeth coach smith having children there in the 1800s and I know wife Mary died 1845 at Great Bridge but if he's the one from O/S how can he be in the army from 1795-1817 and still at Bilston 1798-1800?

Any one have any ideas?
