Back to P.E.I - 1864  directory:  Rev. W. Stewart, B. A., Stratford, &c.
The Southport Cemetery: An Episcopal church was built in Southport (now Stratford)
around 1856 largely due to the efforts of Rev William Stewart. The church was sold
1910 but the site & attached cemetery remained the property of the Church of Eng.

... adding: Looking back into Nova Scotia:
- Just found a Rev. John Stannage who had a daughter - Ann Elizabeth Uniacke Stannage
Rev. John Stannage was born in 1808, in Channel Islands...(the son of John Stannage
and Elizabeth Le Masurier)  He married Eliza LeCain on 4 September 1840, in Nova Scotia,
...an Elizabeth G? "Uniake"  &  E.D.B. Cunnigham signed as witnesses
They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada 1840.
In 1834, age 26, occ listed as anglican clergyman (rector Elizabethtown & Kemptville)
So, although not the father of Charlotte...May be related to her? The Reverend also sounds
as enthusiastic as William as he fundraised to build many churches in Nova Scotia.
His daughter with both the names also gave freely to benefit the church. Perhaps he may have named them after a benefactor?

***adding:
"Elizabeth G. Uniacke" (witness, Rev. Stannage wedding above) was sec. treas. of the St. George's
Dist. Visiting Society of her husband's church in 1853....So the wife of clergyman Robert Fitzgerald
Uniacke (1797–1870) who built many churches in Nova Scotia, but had no children.

***Found this...maybe someone might look for the burial of the 1st. Mrs. Rev. Wm. Stewart
Was he posted to PEI even earlier as the rector in nearby Cherry Valley???
    Christ's Church, Cherry Valley; Mission Chapel, Southport;
Mission Chapel, Murray Harbour — Rev.William Stewart.

Okeydoke...You'd said it was imperative that you find a marriage. Have you found both parents for Johnson?

In 1901 Mary says she immigrated 1870 & also that they married 1870, but census info not taken all that seriously back then, so don't take that date to the bank. marriages were not recorded until 1885, although you might locate a church wedding.
No real information in these to know if it is hers. http://www.rootschat.com/links/01t12/

Also found a tree which has errors....says their children born Eng. but that's from the 1880 census where the enumerator kept writing Eng. for all the children...  also the first son "Johnston" b. 1866 wales isn't listed for 1st marriage
Tree has six children listed for Mary.  If you hit her name it will give you a window with a url that says sources - down to bottom of list for death cert info - basics grabbed from it: Mary Curnoe Granville / d. 1937 Pennsylvania, USA  Father: John Rowe

The poor young lad! Saw that he was embalming ( a series of harmfull chemicals, inc. formaldehyde)...they didn't have proper ventilation available back then. The sport may have heightened his problems, but sadly they were most likely caused by his chosen profession.

Welcome to Rootschat, ILEXSALOPIA! Thanks ever so much for your kindness!  ❤❤❤ The emblem I use for my avatar is the symbol from his spoon! It is way to large to be a child's silver spoon so perhaps made in commemoration, instead of a ring? Mum said it was the blunt family emblem/insignia although I've not seen other evidence of this, so perhaps they came up with it themselves.

I was interested in the St. Chad grave photos at one time, but now have many of their life stories which I am happy with.  Thanks ever so much for the offer, though!

********************

Also...My take is that...The family did do some very important work, but were not more important than anyone else. I do think there is such a thing as having too much money, though. Having larger homes or land than one needs or can look after oneself, just because one can afford it, isn't the way we were meant to live... I learned this from his grandaughter...my Mum, who could do many things & make something from so little.

Here is the old web site, for anyone searching...although it is old information. The newer site was more up to date, but because it was new, did not get as many views so was not archived. Sorry if you find images or links that were not archived.

Wow, just looked back & saw that this thread is almost 20 yrs old!!! Such a great bunch of people back then, so helpful & kind.  Noted that a photo image was removed from a post earlier on this thread. Rather maddening...my husband paid way too much to the person who held it, but back then we had found so little about him.

She really tried to conceal her age in the 31 census as she was 41...calling her dau. a niece...
She's known as Florrie at birth reg. & baptism & Flora in 1901 with the Foulds. Used Florence for marriage to Thomas Stokes 1911 & the 1911 census... heart rendering as it would have been so tough to lose her new husband and to also be pregnant. Glad she did have a nice end with a good husband...
I also saw the birth of Ivy today...odd that it never came up yesterday. Mind you FreeBMD tends to lock up a bit these days, maybe when it is busier...
Births Sep 1911  Stokes , Ivy  mother: Beck   Leicester
Births Sep 1912  Stokes,  Phyllis mother: Beck  Leicester
Yeah you're correct in saying Phyllis couldn't be Thomas's...so Phyllis is your husband's ancestor?
Seems odd that they'd leave Phyliss & only take Thomas's child.
