Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Jean Horn birth details
« on: Saturday 06 January 24 14:57 GMT (UK)  »
Elizabeth Horn   Alexander Pirie   m.  4 Jul 1829  Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire
also found this gravesite which does appear to be the Eliz. Horn born tarves,
although not on the stone, so perhaps from her death info?  d. 13 Feb 1883 Skene
  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/195358221/elizabeth-pirie
County info did flip-flop, so perhaps they were named differently in his era.
example: Keithfield once was in Methlick ... Likely from the Earl Marischal Keiths
Robert Smith (where young William worked) was also a tennant in Old town of Fochel & Balgove which are next to Wm. Sr. - all in area owned by the Earl of Aberdeen. You can find all the crofts from the census in there, including a HORNSCROFT!

Sadly, accurancy depends on who gives info to enumerators & life documents.

Canada / Re: Robert Stewart and Isabel McGlashan in Lochaber N.S.

I thought you might be happy to have Susan located. ( adding: I couldn't care less re: religious affiliation ) I saw that 3 daughters had survived the father Robert so started looking for her as she was the youngest.  Two of the sons outlived him and Peter and Rev. William have passed, so Alexander & ____???  (One of the Nova Scotia born)
Was looking at the marriage for Susan & Allen Stewart & was wondering if it may have been the Baptist Deacon Donald McGregor, born 1806 in Perthshire who signed the marriage bond? Just a thought as he was from the region & also immigrated c. 1832 from Perthshire to South River Lake, where the couple were married.
Deacon Donald (nicknamed "New Donald")

Adding:
Tree from the hard work of a descendant of Susan's with some info on her children. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/KL7C-1CD
For those searching the ancestors of the Stewarts from Perthshire / Lochaber, N.S. I'll repost the url to Throth's hard work & his extensive website.

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Marguerite Lavigne wife of William Doucet in New Brunswick
« on: Wednesday 13 December 23 02:46 GMT (UK)  »
Was looking for Lavigne who used variations of the name Lena/Lina/Delina, etc. in case they were siblings...& found this family where it unfortunately looks as though Tranquill's Margaret has also been claimed. Tree says she was born 1 April 1854.  I'd not bank on all results to be accurate, as so much information is missing. PolarBear's find also shows that sadly, even information on documents can be inaccurate.
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LVY9-DCM
1901 she says birth 28 Dec 1853  ...Online tree has her birth as 21 Nov 1854

Sorry about the url in my reply above. It worked at the time.  Try again...
1841- https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5a140144f4040b9d6ee549ea
1851- https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/590266dfe9379091b1cab83a
1861- https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/590269f7e9379091b1d7663a
Use previous & next dwelling feature to see the other dwellings

It is a conundrum that William's father was called George at his death.

The results on census after 1841 say Tarves, Tarves (Parish & District)
However, NONE of the Horn dwellings are within the actual town of Tarves.
New map of Tarves - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01st4/
Old Map of Tarves - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01st3/
Make larger & reduce slightly to see that Bartholchapel & Mosside are close to Keithfield.
Can't see any Upperwoodhill which is where Wm Sr. dwelled on census.
However, you can see Silvermoss & Courtstone which are near his 1871 census dwelling.
Also on one census a few dwellings before Wm Sr. is a Bartlechaple dwelling
...so his son William in the Smith households of Bartlechaple aren't very far away...
The fact that George is within one of the Smith dwelling sites in 1841, prior to William's 1st
son William being in one of their dwellings in 1851 & 1861 is pretty compelling.
Also George has daughters Jean & Christian ( Jean & Jane being interchangeable)

Canada / Re: Canadian WW1 records

I know this isn't your direct family, but I looked into the 1921 census. The Military papers EileenWilson found say he was in Smoky Falls in 1919 & tried all versions of forename with just surname L* in Nipissing. Makes me wonder if they didn't get out to some of the norther logging camps to enumerate. Saw that his cousin Honore was still a soldier in Simcoe 1921.

I did find a sister may have had a son's birth (registered) there in 1925
Délia Lacoursière & Ferdinand Charron- son R* Charron b. Dec-28, 1925  Smoky Falls, Ont.
https://www.gazaillegenealogy.org/tree/gazaille/individual/X3169/Romuald-Charron

His sister Blanche Lacourciére married Albert Dubuc , 28 Dec 1920 in Smoky Falls
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:27D2-Q4L

Lots of the family & off-shoots also lived near many of the waterfall towns in Ontario which would have welcomed back the men to employ in logging camps, millls & log driving. While looking for Omer I found this lovely family page, & will share for others searching the surname.

I'll personal message John, as perhaps he didn't get notified...when the site has an overload it can dump notifications. He also may have changed his email contact info though...

Sadly, that night raid had one of the most losses of the war up to then...

Scroll down to just before the image.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ssa/

Didn't find much about the night raid other than targeting resources/rail junction.
Previous recent bombardments would have put some heavy defences into motion.
Losses are listed in number of "aircraft" only.
https://www.northlincsweb.net/103Sqn/html/magdeburg__21-22nd_january_1944.html

This site still has him as "missing" rather than K.I.A.

Adding: The aircraft itself has more information on the sortie than of the men themselves.
