Armed Forces / Re: More Help with identifying uniform and country

Thanks Jim1 and ShaunJ. Interesting that you think the most likely candidates could include RGA as my Grans eldest brother served with them. You've given me something to investigate. Thanks for your help.

That's interesting! Now I'm starting to wonder if the man on the left is the same person as the one in the photo on my other post. Probably wishful thinking. How I wish I'd spoken to my Gran about these photo's, but I didn't know they existed until clearing out some of Dad's things!

We lost my Dad just over 12 months ago and my sister and I have had many talks about what we are going to do with the 'stuff'. Not just the furniture - although there are two pieces in particular that came from the farm where my Gran was born and grew up.  Both are large pieces that have huge sentimental value to both of us (one was in the home we grew up in, and the other in our Gran's house) and we would love to keep them, but certainly at least one of the pieces is far too big to fit in my small terraced house.  Fortunately we don't have to make a decision on either yet as my Dad's partner continues to live in the house they shared and has lived with both pieces for several decades now.   I'll have to make sure I've moved to a bigger house before we need to do something!  We've also inherited a host of family papers - there's copies of wills from the 19thC, the original lease agreement for the farm my G Grandfather moved to when he married my G Grandmother, and the insurance documents (dated 1895), receipts from the same time for setting up the house, a host of memorial cards and ribbons, letters, books (presents from one sister to another and inscribed as such), photos etc. Its a fascinating treasure trove, and neither of us want to let these things go, but neither of us have children and we will need to do something eventually. We're investigating local history societies and archives in the relevant local area and hoping that at least some of it will find a home where it will be appreciated.

Good spot - I'd completely missed the writing. I'd tried to read the sign on the left but couldn't make anything out. It is in good condition isn't it?

Armed Forces / More Help with identifying uniform and country

Another one from the family archive - this time a group photo.  I'm assuming that like the others in the collection it dates from WW1 - could that be right?  Are there any clues as to the regiment and/or thecountry or part of the world where the picture might have been taken?  Some features suggest cavalry or at least a connection with horses- the figure on the right hand side has patches on his legwear that remind me of those found on jodphurs and the brush in the hand of the seated man looks like the type of brush used on horses.
I find this photo fascinating and would love to know a bit more about the background to it.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks everybody - I'll search military records and see if I can find a family member that fits. I knew it wasn't one of my Grans brothers - we know they were in the Royal Garrison Artillery and the Grenadier Guards (possibly transferring to the Household Cavalry), but there were many cousins as well!

Thank you.  That was one of the ones that came up when I googled, but on the pictures I found it looked as if the horse on that badge was galloping and I discounted it.  This horse looks more as if its rearing, but I'm probably guilty of 'fitting the evidence to what I know'!  I'll do a bit more research.
Thanks again.

My sister and I have recently inherited a stack of family papers and photographs, amongst which are 6 photo's depicting soldiers, we believe from WW1. I've searched google to see if I can find any information and believe this first photo may depict a member of the Kings Liverpool Regiment - can anybody confirm this or point me in the right direction?  I hope its ok to also post some of the other photo's, but not sure whether to start a new topic for each or to attach them to this one.
