Thanks Groom for your info & for the advice.  I was not sure what to do with the 2 topics being posted.  Thought I had lost the original post so did it a 2nd time.  Next time I will double check before redoing.

Hope this will link both posts.  Link

Thankyou for that info Suz & groom.  It is interesting that Joseph was a publican & married women that had fathers who were also inn keeprers.  His sister Sarah's father-in-law was also an innkeeper at the Miner's Rest Inn.

That is 4 Gledhills down, just Emma, Milly, Caroline, Annie, George & John to go, so if anyone can enlighten me about them that would be great.

Thankyou very much Rosie99.

That gives me a few more pieces in the puzzle for this side of the family.  I was beginning to wonder if I had the right name for James' parent & now I know I didn't.  I found a Census record for 1881 that gave a William & Ann living with James & Sarah, but I had John & Elizabeth for his parent's names.  Now I know which is right.

Also good to know there was a brother.  This also gives me a bit more for the Gledhill side.  Looks like I had the wrong name for her parents too.

I am currently trying to find out about my maternal Grandmother's father's family.  He was George Wilson born c. 1879, Carlton, Yorkshire?  His parents were James Wilson (bn c.1852, Barnsley, Yorkshire) & Sarah Jane Gledhill (bn c. 1853 West Riding, Yorkshire).  I know James was a coalminer & Sarah was a linen weaver).

I would like to find out some more about James Wilson.  It is believed that his parents were John & Elizabeth Wilson.  He emigrated to Australia with his wife & 5 children, arriving in Sydney on the "Aberdeen" 15 April 1886.

Does anyone have an further insights.  Were John & Elizabeth Wilson his parents?

Vicki

Hi Julie,
My friend & I would love to swap info.  As to Your Uncle Doug, I didn't know where he died, only that he wasn't married for very long.  His mother was Catherine ("Kate") Grace who was  Great Grandma Grace's cousin.  So I am not actually a Cowin but come from the Grace line but would love to know more about Doug & of course he is also part of my friend's family tree.

I believe your other Aunty - Mary - lives in Nambucca Heads & was married to George Scrivener.  We also have a few Scriveners in the family tree.

So i look forward to hearing from you again.
Vicki
