Australia / The "Genghis Kahn" 1853 in Melbourne
« on: Monday 15 October 12 19:41 BST (UK)  »
I would love to find out if someone has a scanned version of Joseph Tarry's book describing the 1853 voyage of the immigrant ship Genghis Khan from Liverpool to Melbourne. See below:

Cumberland / Rev Benjamin Grisdale of Matterdale
« on: Friday 05 October 12 11:40 BST (UK)  »
I've been researching Benjamin's interesting life: http://grisdalefamily.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/rev-benjamin-grisdale-and-the-siege-of-yorktown-1781/

I would welcome ideas on who his grandfather was. His father was also Benjamin thus there are two possibilities I think: Joseph Grisdale (married Jane Martin) whose son Benjamin was born 1713 or one of the two Thomas Grisdales in Watermillock , I'd prefer the one whose son Joseph was born in 1706. Because the Rev Benjamin's brother Rev Browne Grisdale  had a son called Joseph Browne Grisdale I prefer Joseph as grandfather at the moment, and due to his possible age.

Any thoughts?

Also any record of Benjamin senior's death? He married Ann Browne of Watermillock and after being in Threlkeld the family moved to Maryport?

Cumberland / Matterdale Farmers 1690 - Mounsey vs Huddleston
« on: Tuesday 02 October 12 19:02 BST (UK)  »
I have written about how a group of Matterdale farmers took the Lord of the Manor of Hutton John, Andrew Huddleston, all the way to the House Of Lords in 1690, fighting for their right to "common of pasture"

Their are various documents in the Carlisle archives about the first Assizes trial in 1686 (I have the references). I wonder if anyone might be interested in looking these up if they ever go to the County Record Office.
