« on: Tuesday 17 July 18 19:43 BST (UK)  »
I have marriage certificate for a chap from Gorey- stating
he is a soldier 1946.
Not sure if this person is dead or alive! May have been born 1925/26. Certificate shows he's a minor so I'm assuming that is under 21yrs.
Any ideas which regiment he may have been in, and who l could contact.
Many thanks for any help

Wicklow / Fairview Road Wicklow
« on: Friday 29 June 18 20:08 BST (UK)  »
I have Fairview Road Wicklow on a 1946 wedding certificate
it's the residence of the groom. Does this road still exist?
The groom's father gives his profession as Sweeper not sure if this would be Chimney or Road - if it was a business it may have operated from this address. Who would l need to contact in Wicklow
Thanks for any help

Wexford / Did Kathleen marry?
« on: Friday 08 June 18 18:21 BST (UK)  »
I have a date of birth August 1930 in St John's Enniscorthy (workhouse)
I assume she would have been baptised at the workhouse church. So given that she did marry would she have needed to ask to marry somewhere else in Ireland.
Who would hold such records? Would information be given freely or data protection kick in with the line of research.c
Oh so many question  ???

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Boxer Styke
« on: Monday 20 June 16 20:49 BST (UK)  »
Family folk law has Henry/Harry Bolton born 1880
Parents John & Elizabeth  Bolton residing Islington Holbeck Leeds.
Story tells he was a bare knuckle boxer and sometime money lender.
A person contacted me many years ago saying Styke as he was known had boxed in the yard at Tommy Wass Dewsbury Rd Leeds. This person claimed they had a photo of a boxing belt he had won. She said it was similar to a Lonsdale Belt.
Anyone who can confirm if this is true would be appreciated

Joseph Freer was witness with Joan Farrell.
Bride & Groom now dead and maybe the witness too.
Marriage on 31st December  Patrick Stanley & Mary Power.
If you knew Joesph or any of others mentioned, where the after 'do' was held anything.
I think Mary may have at some point worked in the fish factory in Dublin!

Wexford / grandma maiden name different
« on: Sunday 24 May 15 17:16 BST (UK)  »
For some reason my deceased mother never had her birth registered. Her sister my aunt was born county home enniscorthy l got her birth certificate showing correct father, date, place of birth grandma 1st name, but the maiden name shows Kearns not Ward which is on her marriage certificate.
When l queried this anomaly with Wexford records office l was told that the informant at the county probably made a mistake. :'(
I have never found a birth for my grandma  Kathleen father Thomas she states she 26 when marrying in 1931. I'm guess she born 1905-1909.
No wonder folks end up in dead end alleys, it's never easy but very interesting. :)

Antrim / resident in Northern Ireland without a permit (1946)
« on: Sunday 24 May 15 16:54 BST (UK)  »
Why would a person from southern Ireland be charged in 1946 with failure to produce identity card and resident in Northern Ireland without a permit.
There were other charges, assault disorderly behaviour. It's the permit thingy that intrigues me.
Do l assume if you had the correct papers and were law abiding you could move between north and south?
