Sussex / Shoemaker dies aged 27
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 20:12 BST (UK)  »
My husbands 2x gg father was a Master shoemaker this information I have just obtained from his death certificate 1857. He was born and lived in Brighton but I can not find information regarding his training. I am not sure if he worked for himself or an employer?
I contacted the Keep but was told that records only exist of people who were Paupers and I guess they would have been supported by the church, hence records exist for them.
Can anyone suggest where I may be able to locate training and business information. From the information I have no-one else in the family was a shoemaker. You maybe thinking why did he died so young he had T.B. and had suffered for two years before he died. His name was Richard Murrell his wife Katie Campbell.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Lord Mayor of Leeds ?
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 19:58 BST (UK)  »
There is a story in the family that there was once a Bolton who was the Lord Mayor of Leeds.
I did many years ago arrange a visit to the Civic Hall in Leeds. Having contacted them explaining the family folk law. The C H did not hold any details of this Bolton, :'( but took me into a room that had large wall boards with the years and names of previous Mayors. Two boards were missing there had been a fire at some point and these two boards had been destroyed. The chap who showed me round said it could be possible that my Bolton was on one of the burnt boards. I do know that the Bolton's came from Warwickshire originally I think they moved for work and were living in Leeds 1851 census in Stanningley Road, well his wife Elizabeth was her husband John and eldest son were working in Newark - but I wont confuse the picture further.
If there any any Bolton folk looking for or know of this Lord Mayor please let me know. I understand that there is usually some truth in these old stories, I just can not prove or otherwise at the moment  :-\

I have found my relatives marriage 1931 in Wexford, but can not find birth for her.
Kathleen Ward born 1905 or 1909 ? Her father Thomas Ward tinsmith. Carnt find on 1911 census searched all Ireland.  I have been told that Ward was a big traveller family in southern Ireland? She must have gone to school somewhere as she could read and write.
All seems to point to Wexford as locally where she lived, as she married there and had children in the area. 1st child is registed with Kathleen and her husband as living at Camoln but Kathleen maiden name incorrect when l queried at Wexford archives who gave me original details they said it was a mistake probably make at Enniscorthy Workhouse hospital where birth had taken place. Second child born recorded in Workhouse records but as birth had been outside workhouse staff did not notify records office. ??? I don't know names of Kathleens' siblings so lm thinking if any Ward travellers from Ireland are on Rootchat l am so look eager to learn more.
Ps Kathleen husband Charles Power he has proved to be a mystery too, tinsmith
 turned horsedealer.

Elizabeth Taylor m John Bolton 1831 Aston marriage certificate is scant but it names a witness as Hannah Taylor a sister perhaps? On census 1841 Elizabeth is recorded as having been born in Warickshire all subsequent census show Middlesex London. I haven't found a birth certificate for Elizabeth who l think was born1809. She died Beeston West Yorkshire 1887.
A long shot l know but does anyone have these folk on there tree.
Or suggestions as to how l can trace Elizabeth's birth cert sorry l don't have her parents 1st names.

I am able to offer look up through the information that I hold,to try and help out the roots-chatters.
I am normally to be found over the past 6 or so years in the chat section
I am sorry to say that I have never taken the time to see what else is on offer in rootschat!!!
Hi biz
I am wondering if you could look up for me.
My grandfather Charles Power born Wexford 1908, I have his marriage details Wexford again 1931.
but the lack of a paper trail has proved difficult to research beyond his father Stephen Power, again I have a marriage for him Wicklow 1906. Stephen states Tinsmith for profession on marriage cert, Charles states same profession on his. The only address Thomas Street where Charles born but 1911 census no Power on that Street.

Wexford / Power/Kelly

Hi everyone on the eve of a new year can I say a happy and healthy 2014 to all.
Now on to business I am still looking for further info on my maternal grandfather Charles Power born 1908 Thomas St Wexford I think this address was a stop gap for his parents great grandfather Stephen Power (Tinsmith) and Catherine Kelly(Dealer?) married 1906 Shillelagh no fixed address at that time, I havent be able to find any further addresses, I have visited Thomas St but without any success. Stephen's father Michael Power (labourer) Catherine's father Charles (Tinsmith).
Grandfather Charles 1908 has a christening record at Bride St Church and later marries at Rowe St Church. Which all points to some connection with Wexford dispite the lack of recorded addresses. My mother now deceased attended Wexford Convent until leaving school in the late 40's.
Anyone with these people on their tree or any information would be fantastic as I would love to take my searches further back in time.
Many thanks  :)

Lancashire / Power family , Dublin to Liverpool late 1940's - where are you ?
« on: Tuesday 10 December 13 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi my relative now deceased moved to Liverpool from Dublin late 1940's after living in a number of temporary rooms she eventually got rooms in Upper Canning Street and lived there until 1956.
her name falls off the electoral  list at that time. I have been unable to trace her further. She had a husband at the time but wasnt living with him although she refers to herself as Mrs Power and I assume she must have worked to provide for herself. She has proved a bit of a mystery her name was Kathleen but she refers to herself as Ellen born between 1905 -1909 somewhere in Ireland father Thomas Ward
Any info would be good as Im getting nowhere  :-[
