Lancashire / Re: Born in Ellel ?? where to look for baptism
« on: Thursday 30 June 05 21:31 BST (UK)  »

A stab in the dark as I don`t know his age or his parents but as he mentioned Garstang in the 1861 what about this one:

RAWCLIFFE, Richard   Christening
   Gender:   Male
Christening Date:   11 Oct 1829   Recorded in:   Garstang, Lancashire, England
   Father:   Henry RAWCLIFFE
   Mother:   Jennet
Source:   FHL Film 1502428   Dates:   1826 - 1861

I would imagine that it is St. Thomas`s, Garstang.

Your ancestor wouldn`t  have come from around Burnley way would she?  There was an Ightenhill Park which was on the outskirts of Burnley/Habergham Eaves.  It was listed as Ightenhill Park in various census`s.
Now it is just know as Ightenhill (pronounced eyetenhill).

Lancashire / Re: Dougles green Manchester

If you go to and type in Douglas Green and tick the address box you will get a selection.  Hit the first one and then view map, when it appears, Douglas Green is in the right and corner of the pink square. If you enlarge the view  you will also see Whit Lane that Wendy mentioned.

I also took a look at the 1861 and agree with Wendy that it is definitely Manchester.

Lancashire / Re: Help with photographer
« on: Friday 24 June 05 20:45 BST (UK)  »

Checking the 1891 there was a Ramsden Hinchcliffe, Photographer in Liverpool with a 14 year old son Eugene. There were only three references for Hinchcliffe in Liverpool so I think perhaps the son could well be your man.  However Eugene was not in the family business in the 1901 but he was only 24 at the time.

Perhaps a look up in a later Liverpool trade directory would help.

Just a thought.

Lancashire / Re: Help on Marriage with 2 surnames for female

Hi Sue,

When there is an * against the entry on Lancashirebmd it can mean that the spouses former married name and maiden name are entered on the certificate and so both are listed under seperate entries.
