Aberdeenshire / Re: Adoption 1800's
« on: Sunday 06 July 14 04:01 BST (UK)  »
I am also looking for information on someone who was informally adopted in 1896.
It was suggested I look into :
1.        http:www.workhouses.org.uk/Scotland
2.        Kinnermonth

It was also mentioned to me 3. that for illegitimate children an, "Aliment for illegitimate children " was required under Scottish law. I assume this requires the birth parent to give support money to the family looking after the child they informally adopted or looked after.
If anyone has more information on these 3 areas, I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you.

:D        Thank you. I would be delighted to join the family.
I was thinking that might be a possibility but the descendants of his first wife may not agree. Fanny was James' second wife. I have gathered a lot information on the Greens (sadly no pictures) . There were a number of Stewart C Greens from Aberdeen. Would you be one? If so I have a lot of information to share, if you are interested. Fanny and James K Green's son was also called James Green  (there was also a James Green with wife #1 he died in S Africa (1865-1895). So...at the very least my grandmother had a half brother James Green  (or perhaps a full sibling.)
Wife # 1 dies -Jan 28, 1897
Marriage to Fanny-Jun 7, 1897
Son, James Green born -Jan 12, 1898.
All so interesting.
I appreciate your input.
Thank you.

Sorry, I gave the wrong birth date for Rosanna Duncan McWilliam. It was July 12, 1896. I have the birth certificate. I have the 1897 census and her marriage certificate 1919. Her marriage certificate (Orillia, Ontario, Canada) is under her adopted name of Rosanna Clark.

Hoping to find out some more information about Rosanna Duncan McWilliam.
Born (1896) in Alexander's Buildings, Union Glen, Aberdeen. Mother, Fanny Margaret McWilliam (1868-1930). Fanny was an Ironmonger's Book-Keeper, Domicil-Hope Cottage, Hardgate, Aberdeen. I found this information in her birth certificate.
Fanny's parents were Anne Ord (1844-1905) and John McWilliam (1842-1905).
Fanny married James K Green in 1897 and had son James Green 1898.
No father was list on the birth certificate for Rosanna. It did not say illegitimate. She was informally adopted by Martha and Andrew Clark and started going by Clark at some point.
I believe the descendants of James Green may have information/pictures and know information that may be of assistance to me.   Rose and adopted sister Christina Clark (later Provencher) moved to Canada along with older adopted sister Mary Keith Clark, later Kite) after the death of the Clark parents. All 3 girls married Canadians and I have information on Rose in Canada although have lost track of Christina and Mary's descendants.
Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. I would really like to be able to identify Rosanna's father.
