Follow Up - I have received the death and birth details of David Lewis and the female child born unnamed. These details have given me more information to look at the Separation records to locate the widow Anne Lewis.
The death Certificate gives the widow's name as Ann Jarvis - Should be Davies - It was pointed out to me that this was a Scottish settlement basically- the witness was a John Balfour, Brisbane River. If a Welsh speaking person, and a Scottish person interpreting Davies could sound like Jarvis. David Lewis had been in Australia for five months before his death 22 Jan 1856. Unknown burial.
The details of the female child are correct, and Ann is now Davis. Place of birth Cointon Station, NR Ipswich. Again John Balfour Settler, Cointon NR Ipswich is the informant, Ann Lewis marked with a X.
I have googled John Balfour come up with a few details. This will give me a lead on where to look for this family.
There were obviously some Welsh around this area as Anne remarried John Owen born Wales 1860. Anne did not speak English, or very little. How daunting, no other family members are known. They were Baptists, and David Lewis coming from a line of Welsh Baptist Preachers - maybe the reason for migrating?
I'll keep you posted on any findings for those who may be interested.
Thank you all again for your guidance and help.
Regards
Jane
