Many thanks

World War One / Clifford Herbert Amos - 45536 Machine Gun Corps
« on: Friday 21 February 20 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Clifford was born in Philadelphia in 1885.  His parents were Clifford and Ada Ruth Amos.  Clifford senior born in 1859 in Gravesend and Ada Hellis born 1861 in Maida Vale.  They married in Lambeth in 1881.

I can find Ada travelling to New York in 1883 with two children - Clifford Hellis Amos and John, but she appears to be travelling without her husband.  They appear to have a daughter in Peckham in 1887 so must have travelled back by then.

My problem is I can't find what happened to Clifford Hellis born 1882, or John who do not appear again on any records that I can find. I assume they died.  I cannot find any record that Clifford senior travelled to USA.  They next record of Clifford Snr is in a Lunatic Asylum in Maidstone in 1901.

At one point I thought both Clifford juniors were the same person but there appears to be a three year difference.  Also a copy of his birth certificate appears on Meopham Historical Society site.

Unfortunately Clifford died within 5 weeks of being at the Front.  I would like to find some records of his travelling from the US in anyone can help.

Thanks

World War One / Frederick Bosworth MM & Bar, MMFr., Service No. 840058 - RFA.T 233

The above mentioned soldier died 30 June 1919 in Russia.  There is a large write up on him on the internet under 'Rugby Remembers'.  It states that he was Killed in Action and buried  in a local churchyard at Lumbushi Chyd, Russia.  However all his military records state he was 'Accidentally Killed'.  I have tried looking the the Diaries but cannot find anything referring to the incident.

On the CWGC site he was in the 420th Battery when he was killed

Any ideas as to how I can find out what happened?

Armed Forces / William James Grant MM 5402 - Royal Irish Rifles
« on: Wednesday 16 October 19 12:48 BST (UK)  »
The above mentioned WW1 soldier died 25th March 1918.  He was formerly with the Royal West Kents, service number 4011.  I am looking for any information on his Military Medal and how he came to be awarded it.

I've also heard that he was the only casualty of the day.  Any help with either his MM or the circumstances on how he died would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Kent / Lord Brougham Pub - 153 New Road, Chatham
« on: Wednesday 18 September 19 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for a photo of this pub.  I know this was around in 1901 as it is on the census, managed by Annie Whitebread.  By 1911 it appears to be a residential home.

I can't find any information on when it ceased to be a pub or a photo of what it looked like.  I believe the property no longer exists.

Any help would be appreciated.

The above named soldier died on 18/12/1916 and is buried at Wanquetin Communal Cemetery Extn.
He was wounded and died of wounds at 41st Casualty Clearing Station.  He was awarded the Military Medal and I am assuming it was won at the battle at which he was wounded (although I know this might not be the case)  His effects record, however, does not mention his MM.

I am unable to find the Regimental Diaries online to ascertain what happened prior to his wounding, which might shed a light on why he was awarded the medal.  Does anyone have access to the diaries or have copies of them which would help?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Does anyone have any information and/or photos of the Electrical Resistance Co owned by the Winter family that was located in the Lewisham area in the 1930/40s?  I'm not sure what it would have been called.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
