Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Street Name in London
« on: Monday 08 October 12 20:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me read this street name from a baptism record of Ellen Button in 1885 in the Parish of St Peters, Clerkenwell.
It looks like 3 Lefy Lesbry Street ??
I've checked the Post Office Street directories and cannot find it.

Armed Forces / John Hankins - Victorian Conflict 1857-1899
« on: Monday 03 September 12 22:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for someone with access to Forces War Records that would be willing to look up a record for John Hankins. There is a record dated 1893 that is listed under Victorian Conflicts and I wondered if it showed where the John Hankins came from?

My John Hankins was born in 1857 in Crondall, Hampshire.

Many thanks in advance.

Armed Forces / Died during the war but not recorded?
« on: Sunday 26 August 12 13:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.

I've been told that ancestor born in 1935 died during the war, but when I search all War records there is nothing with his name, his initials or anything like his name listed on the sites.

Would soliders missing in action be listed as dead? What other reasons would there be for this information to be missing?

The Common Room / Still listed after death?
« on: Friday 24 August 12 07:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Is it possible to still be listed in the British Telephone Book for two years after death?
A J Hankins from Surrey B.1886 - D.1961 is listed in the 1962 and 1963 records of the phone book. Maybe because his wife still lived there?

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone can tell me the place that Arthur J Hankins was assigned to in the Postal service in 1931?

In the image his occupation is listed as SW II and then in the "place" column it states "Engr (Prov)" ?? Is that an abbreviation for an area?

« on: Tuesday 07 August 12 21:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am writing out a full description of my GG Uncle that served in WW1, but the handwriting in this section is very hard to read.
I can make out the first part which states he joined the Royal Engr's Signal Depot. Posted as a Driver on the 22/11/15 to Fenny Stratford Signal Depot, but under that i need help.

Any translations greatly welcomed. Thank you.
