Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Wilson family,Essex

AMOTH - if you look at the census page, the writing is very hard to read and quite faint. I can see that the name should be Wilson (just!) but that's because I was looking for Wilson. The person who transcribed the data mis-read the entry as Amoth, not Wilson.

I didn't get a chance to look for the other kids yet - I'm at work  ;) I'm being naughty!! lol

I think I've found her on 1871:

RG10 730
St Giles, Camberwell, Surrey.
I can't read the house name, I think it's Camden something.

Matilda Georgiana Wilson - transcribed as AMOTH, 16, born Barking, Essex.

I think it says her occupation is General Domestic Servant

Completed Census Requests / Ancestry searches

Hi all,

Is anyone else finding that the searches on ancestry aren't returning hits that are there? I was just searching an enquiry from someone on here and put in Thomas Johnson, born 1827+/- 5 years, residence Yorkshire for the 1841 census and it returned no matches. But when I take out Yorkshire, loads of hits are returned, some of them having Yorkshire are the county

 ??? ???

does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?!

Modified: is it because I had exact matches ticked? I thought that only affected the name though?

Hi there,

I did a quick search of the 1841 census for Jane Marwood born 1830+/- 5 years. There are 9 matches that come up and from this, Marwood appears to be a Yorkshire name. The only match for born in 1830 exact is as follows:

Lund, Easingwold, Yorkshire
Jane Marwood, 11, female servant in the house of a family named Noton.  she was born in Yorkshire.
