Looking for anyone with connections to JOHNSTON family, or farm they worked, AIRDSGREEN, Muirkirk.

Believe father William Johnston b abt 1776 was collier at Old Cumnock. Son Alexander b1812, Old Cumnock, d1891 Airdsgreen. Know the farm stayed in family for several generations, now part of Open Cast mining.

Will do, might even track down when William/Robert arrived in Canada. Looks like they had an aunt who arrived in 1842.

Here is part of an old post from "lodger' Dec 07

It's really quite simple. If you read the words "High Church" on a post 1855 birth, marriage or death certificate you are looking at a Registration District within the parliamentary burgh of Glasgow. It has nothing to do with the ecclesiastical parish surrounding Glasgow Cathedral.
If the words occur pre 1855 then it is safe to assume they refer to the cathedral church's old parish records and the inner city (644/1). On 1st January 1855, 644/1 became the registration district of Central.

Hope it helps.

Sandra

I was telling BarLou how helpful you have been and she assumed you may be related, but I see she has already been in touch. Once again I'm deeply indebted. I have been able now to fill in more about Robert, and William more successful than first thought. Can feel a trip to St Marys coming on some time.

Cheers

Some available on ScotlandsPeople, under catholic records last I saw. Think the Mitchell library also has some.

Sandra, how can I thank you..so much in so little time.

I haven't come across those middle names before in my tree, so maybe they are from the mother's side?

As for Lorne and Dora, they did have an uncle James Johnston, still living at the family farm of Airdsgreen, Glenbuck, Muirkirk. He died 1925 at the farm, so I suppose they may well have been visiting the family in Muirkirk.

The surname of Eggo is interesting, not come across that in Scotland, yet.

It's still a mystery when William and/or Robert originally came over, information I have from St Marys Museum is William is not on the 1861 census, but does appear in militia training records in 1860.

I have that info on my tree as Mary Dempster is direct ancestor.  But another source seems to think Robert came over with Thomas abt 1859 which would make him only 5, a bit unlikely I think. I'm sure he came over with half brother William abt 1859, as William notes in his book 'Pioneers of Blanchard" although no mention of Robert with him.
