The Common Room / Re: Whats in a name?
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 00:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi Joe.
Eddwick a common spelling error for "Edwick" over time, the name arrived in England following the Norman  Conquest 1066, and the Edwick's  settled in Sussex.(the name's source of origin comes from the Old English word  "wic", meaning lives in an outlying village.
Old English names lacked spelling rules  thus the different ways of spelling.

Hi Emma.
Can not help you with your photo, but as to the gravestone I had the same experience when I went to visit my mothers grave site some 14 years ago in Ireland after 40 years .   Her site had been moved The cemetery caretaker told me to contact  the "Local council  cemetery management department" which I did and got the lot number over the phone the same day.
