Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Re: John McMurchy
« on: Thursday 10 September 20 00:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi, thanks for the reply.

The John you have found would appear to have been born in 1807 as per Death Cert and born in Campbeltown.  He is the one who seems to be listed in all the census records with various birth dates.
The one I am actually trying to verify is the one born 03 05 1806 to Archibald McMurchy and Mary Hyndman.Born in Saddell Parish. Very different from Campbeltown.  I have the Baptismal Registration.  No deaths for the parents and no immigration for any of the Johns. have been found.  Before I put the information on a tree I like to be sure, as I can, that I have the right person, if not I leave them out and they appear as died?????  Sorry but don't like to set anyone in the wrong direction.

Any suggestions as to how I could verify the immigration.  Find my Past and Family Search have nothing, and other sites I was not successful at all.

Thanks Dooker

Trying to verify if John McMurchy born 3.05 1806 Saddell and John McMurchy born abt 1814 Campbeltown are one and the same.  Family Search has tress with more or less the same source information.  Unable to determine when he went to Canada. John born 03 05 1806, parents Archibald McMurchy and Mary Hyndman.

Death Cert, Simcoe, has relation in Collingwood, Ontario, who was a ship carpenter.

Any known McMurchy's out there??

Thanks, Dooker

Hi Monica,

Really didn't think about two Euphemia's, why I don't know.  Did that part in 2012, more knowledgeable now. I just looked at Scot People and there is an Effie Hyndman born 6 07 1806 to Donald Hyndman in Kilcalmonell.  When I think about it, and I just checked for Duncan Hamilton marriage and it took place in Kilcalmonell.  So at this late date I shall no longer have my Effy married to Duncan Hamilton as i shall look to the Canadian site For census etc. They also had two daughters , twins Christina and Jane, b 1831 and I could never find a thing for them.  Thank you for that help.

The post from Forfarian re the Peter family and Census 1841.  I also think they are from James Hyndman parent. Will try and match them up in Canada with Euphemia Hyndman Hamilton as they were in the same area and from Kilcalmonell. The other family mentioned in 1841 Census, Donald Hyndman and Christain McCallum are my family, lots verified.

Earlier today I was in Kintyre Forum and just reading and from 2016 someone is looking for Stalkers and some of the people are my family.  I was unable to read the security printing so was not able to join.  Will try agin.

Again thank you and Forfarian for all your help.  Great to know that my Effie (Hamilton) did not abandon her twins.

I mostly use verification with death certificates and have done well with that.

I live in Canada but come from Kintyre.

Hsve a great week.

Hi Forfarian,

Thanks for the reply and information re Family Search. I usually double check when I find something on Family Search. Now it is much easier to check on Scot People than before but I still find them a bit picky with names. Going to the Edinburgh centre is my favourite way to do research but alas for me that is now not possible, Enjoyed those days .

You are most likely right about the records of birth and death before 1855 records.  In the Kintyre area you do not find deaths unless you go around graveyards and even then it can be a lost cause.  However, that is the addiction of doing Ancestry research.

Thanks for your help.  Have a good week.

Hi Forfarian,

Don't think I ever get your name correct, Sorry.

Re Duncan McCallum, Effy Hyndman's 2nd husband.  I do have the Death Cert and that is where I got the parents names but I have not been able to verify his birth via Family Search or Scotland's People

The 1st husband Duncan Hamilton is more difficult, no date of birth or death date. He was the husband as per Family search .

Thanks for your help.

Hi Monica,

I only found Effy and Catherine with parents Donald Hyndman and Christain McCallum. No other sister.  I shall try looking again as you suggested , perhaps a Mary. The information about Effy's 2nd Husband came from Catherine's Husband's family the Taylors.  I researched and contacted one of the descendants and their tree had the 2nd marriage for Effy.  Taylors had no further details on the nparents, Donald and Christain.

The census for the Hyndman and reids was 1841. I found a Catherine reid b 8 10 1836 parents Duncan Reid and Margaret Hyman.

I have suggested to my Family Search friend that maybe her Peter was from James Hyndman and Christina Thomson and I will send her the details of the children and your comment which makes sense.  Her DNA matched with Peter and Jean McVannel.

Thank you for all the further information you have given me I shall search later, not today.

Hi Monica,
Firstly I would like to say I contacted a Roots Chat member in Sep 2019 re McVannel but he was doing a different family and did not provide any further details.,

Effy Hyndman married Duncan Hamilton on 14 08 1829, they had two daughters Christina and Jane born 1831.  Have not found anything further.  Was told Typhoid in Kintyre 1830-1840.
Effy then married Duncan McCallum in 1836.She married as Effie Hyman. I was never able to verify his details, had parents as Donald McCallum and Mary McBride. He died 21 05 1891 They had 7 children and I did extensive research with them.  One daughter had 12 children and they had moved on to Cambusnethan.  Effy died at Ardrossan 23 09 1888. She had two daughters there, both died prior to her.

Peter Hyndman and MacVannel are my enigma at the moment. !!!

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Forfian,

Thanks for the reply.  I have the Certificate of the Marriage/Banns , it is at the bottom of the page and her name was listed as Jean Mac Vana the rest cut off.

I have also researched the Census with Peter, Christina, and Catherine, and  Christina b 1775,also Daniel Reid 18, and Catherine Reid 4.  I have researched quite a bit with this family and Peter had two sisters Effyborn 1811 and Catherine born 1818, no Christina that I know. Hyndman name was spelled many different ways and I have checked all.  This is my family. Archibald married two sisters, Fletcher, Effy married Hamilton and McCallum, Catherine married Taylor. Neil married Barbra stalker and they were my gr grandparents.  I will reply to Monica regarding the Family search Tree with this Peter Hyndman.

Thanks again, Dooker

Peter Hyndman born 25 04 1813, a twin to Archibald. Parents Donald Hyndman and Christain McCallum.

Family search has Peter Hyndman , Saddell Parish married Jean McVannel, Kilcalmonell Parish in 1842 at Whitehouse, Skipness/Saddell Parish. They both died in Erin , Wellington Co, Ontario, Canada. Marriages in 1842 and Death Certificates in Canada do not list parents.

How do I verify Donald and  Christain Hyndman 's Peter born 25 04 1813 married Jean as it was always thought that the twins Peter and Archibald died.

2nd Archibald Hyndman born 02 03 1815.

Thanks, Dooker
