World War One / WW1 Records sought..
« on: Thursday 24 March 22 08:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I’m desperately hoping someone can assist with obtaining the service records of my Great Grandfather Walter Daubney which I’ve mislaid!!.. They are needed for a publication which goes to press next month.
Walter was born on 25 August 1888 in Lincoln and was in the trenches in arras during WW1 beside his brother Frederick H Daubney who was killed by shrapnel. I believe Walter was discharged and then later returned but I’m not sure as it was a long time since I read the records. He was living in Bolton before and after the war. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.. kind regards Jayhen

Hi everyone,
I’m currently researching a family relative James Daubney born 15 March 1876 In Oldham, Lancashire. James aka Jim was a prize fighter who turned professional boxer. I only have brief information of some of his fights provided by helpful people on this site. I have found brief details of  ‘jim listed on American census records. Firstly I’m hoping people may assist in finding out the details of his passage to the USA and when he left the UK. He is believed to have married a Florence McKercher in 1910 in Wisconsin (not verified) Many thanks in advance…. Jayhen

Lancashire / Daubney Saga Mystery?
« on: Wednesday 14 July 21 08:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi there everyone,
Hoping that someone can assist in locating an address between 1891 and 1896 for a Daniel Daubney b1855 in Lincoln who left there sometime after 1891 (on census as Daniel Danbury) when it is believed he followed his brother David to Oldham. (David a joiner/cabinet maker on census  there in 1891) Daniel’s daughter Edith was born in Oldham in Dec 1893. Later his son Daniel was born in Bolton in 1898 so we are trying to establish any address for him between 1891 and 1898. He was a Hawker at this time. This research is to form part of a future publication if successful. Many thanks in advance.  Jayhen

Hi there, i’m after some assistance please in tracing a newspaper article which i’m told covered the trek of Daniel Daubney and his brother David who walked from Lincoln to Bolton in the late 19th century in search of work. Initially they both landed in Oldham where David settled with his family. Daniel moved onto Bolton where he settled and raised his family. Daniel is my GG Grandfather and was a hawker before he set up a shop in Turton Street, Bolton with his wife Harriet. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / A puzzling Family Mystery.. help please
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 15:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks, I hope everyone is well in these trying times... This mystery has been  a very puzzling one...

Perhaps someone may help to fill in some blanks of this interesting family. A research colleague in New Zealand is in possession of a family photograph album presented as a gift to a Gladys Vivian Cooper at Christmas 1909 by her friend S L Hone.

Glady’s father Harry Albert Cooper Was born in 1862 in Hammersmith, London and in later life became a civil servant. (1911 Census)..

He married Hannah Austin in Fulham in 1886 and the following year their daughter Gladys Vivian was born on 14 May 1887 in Richmond Surrey. Q- Where did they live?

On the 1891 Census Gladys and her mother were living with her grandparents Robert and Hannah A Austin.  Q where was Harry Albert?

On 1901 Census his wife and daughter are at her parents address. Q1.. Where was Harry Albert?

The family travelled to Singapore in 1907 (from photo) not sure about Harry? (Shipping lists?)

They also travelled to Belgium in 1903 (from photo)

On the 1911 Census Harry is in a hotel in Brighton with a ‘companion’ Katherine Hall?’
18 years his junior!..

Hannah and Gladys are at 14 Netheravon Road, Chiswick, London and a visitor Elsie Marguerite Hone is present (relative of the Hone who gave Gladys the album?) Q. can we connect Elsie Marguerite to S L Hone?

In 1939 Hannah & Gladys are at Compton Avenue, Goring on Sea .. Gladys is still single.

What happened to her father Harry Albert?.. it is suggested he died in Cornwall? Was there a will?...

It is believed Gladys became active with the United reformed church in Goring, Worthing.

In 1982 Gladys died still single at the age of 94 in a nursing home in Worthing, West Sussex. A long life, but what did she do I wonder? (Any newspaper articles?)

I know this is a big ask but would love to piece together any information whatsoever on this family in pursuit of reuniting the album and providing some information on the life of Gladys and her family..

Thank you in anticipation

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Singapore passengers 1907
« on: Thursday 25 March 21 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, was wondering if possible to search for a ‘Boyden’ family on a sailing to Singapore in 1907. Including ‘Gladys’ and ‘Rosa’ They lived in London.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to assist in reuniting a large family photo album to descendants and don’t have many clues.. a lot of the photos were taken at a house called ‘Gladwynn’ believed to have once stood on Cromwell Avenue, Bromley in Kent. The album was a gift to ‘Gladys’ around 1903 and I would ask if anyone could help by looking on the 1901 & 1911 census to try and locate the residence and a bonus if a Gladys is an occupier. Many thanks in anticipation
Kind regards Jayhen
