Argyllshire / Re: Camusnagaul Free Church, Kilmallie?
« on: Sunday 14 August 16 22:04 BST (UK)  »
Not sure if this assists but my husband's grandmother (Jessie McDonald married Alan Boyd) grew up in Duisky and her mother was a member of the Free Church. During my mother in law's years in Ardgour the Boyd family attended a church in that area and  I recall the abandoned church being pointed out by her as we drove round the Loch to Blaich. For a time there was a fund to restore and then the roof collapsed and on last visit the church was a ruin. From memory this is located near the school house at Duisky.

In the NRAS Register a bundle of 12 ref NRA 3583/800001  there is an address by Col Maclean to "my tenants and crofters within the bounds of Corran Church who have separated themselves from the establishment," dated Cuil 25th December, 1843 where Col Maclean has plenty to say about the "tent church on seized ground near as to the Parish Church as they could obtain".
The address will give you considerable background up to the erection of the tent and the proposed conditions and support from Maclean for a building site for a another church.

Australia / Re: Boyd Family

Anyone out there with info on this line?
Interested in this Boyd family line and if anyone has been able to find deaths for Ann Boyd and Henry Brown or Ann Brown and William Salisbury or the possible marriage mentioned.
Have a huge brick wall for deaths in this family. Cannot find Ann Boyd father Ewen sometimes known as Hugh Boyd and his second wife Mary Cameron, either possibly in Scotland or did they join three children in Victoria?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Atkinson Ramage Oamaru New Zealand
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 03:18 BST (UK)  »
Sorry abt delay in making this posting - but travel and life sometimes gets in the way of researching - to confirm : John ATKINSON who married Sarah Ann RAMAGE in Dunedin New Zealand 1879 ( ref: www.bdmnz 1879/1554)  was the son of John ATKINSON and Sarah McAULEY and he was born at Broharris in abt 1853 according to his death certificate information. This confirms that he was the brother of William ATKINSON who married Sarah ATTWOOD ( my ancestor).  John ( farmer, died 1906) and Sarah Ann( died 1936)  ATKINSON are buried at the Oamaru cemetery,Old Prebyterian section, New Zealand ( information available online cemetery records. ) John Atkinson had been in NZ 30years at the time of his death according to death registration information. Their son William Lennox Atkinson and his wife Marion nee TAYLOR are also buried at Oamaru and William Lennox ATKINSON WW1 records are available on Cenotaph.
New Zealand historial records   has the registration of their eight children. 1879- Anne Jane; 1880- Martha; 1882- Sarah; 1884- John; 1887- Mary; 1888- Mary ; 1891- William Lennox; 1893- Muriel Madeline died 1903. The two Mary's so close to each other is a puzzle ::), possible transcription error in one of the names. John's death certificate information indicates 2 male living 21yrs and 15yrs and five female liivng 27yrs,26yrs,24yrs,19yrs,17yrs and this ties in with the historical  dates of the births information.
Several mentions in pastpapers North Otago Times  to a John ATKINSON farmer of Totara, Oamaru.
Recently visited Ballykelly, Londonderry Ireland  and have photographs of the three ATKINSON headstones at Tamlagh Finlagen Church of Scotland.
Interested in making contact with this family line.

Many thanks for photographs and the network information -have a Jean Rankin marrying Ewen Boyd and in 1851 census with their family at Blaich. Their son Ewen BOYD (1813-1899) married Ann Boyd ( 1829-1852) daughter of Ewen Boyd and Mary MacPherson,of Blaich, who was the older brother of Allan Boyd who married Mary MacMillan ( our BOYD line). Ewen and Ann BOYD emigrated to Victoria Australia and are known as the Boyds of ELMORE. Four of Ewen Boyd and Jean Rankin's sons went to NZ and are the Boyds of Taiere . Their eldest son Malcolm married Jane McLauchlan and they emigrated on " Constance" 1851 to Victoria, Australia  and are known as the Boyds of Minyup /Beaufort..Have information on these  lines if others are looking.

Am interested in the family of Allan BOYD and Jessie Macdonald buried at Cill Mhaodain and other Boyd family members interned  in adjacent  lots 14,15,16 in the survey by Iain Thorbner.
They are decendants of Ewen BOYD and Anne KENNEDY at Stroncreggan 1774, Drumfern 1776 and then at Blaich 1787. Does anyone know how /if they tie in with Duncan BOYD of Stoncreggan mentioned in posting on Cille Mhaodain.

Hi from another NZ ATKINSON researcher. Do you have any idea of what nationality James ATKINSON was? My search is for William ATKINSON( 1842-1929) who married Sarah ATTWOOD, Southbridge Canterbury in 1872  and later moved to North Island working on farms in the Manawatu and Taranaki area... and a link to possibly his brother John ATKINSON who married Sarah Anne RAMAGE and settled in Oamaru NZ. This ATKINSON line originates in Ballykelly, Londonderry Ireland 1770's. James is a common name within the family line.
