England / Help with Edward Phillips Addison
« on: Sunday 19 February 17 22:29 GMT (UK)  »

Edward Phillips Addison was a comedian born c1813 in Devonport, Devon, England according to Census entries. He was the father of actresses Fanny Addison and Carlotta Addison. The Addisons appeared to travel about a lot.

I'm am struggling to find a birth for him, I'm wondering if he wasn't born an ADDISON.

His Obituary says (Haddy) after his name ?  See the attachment below.

I'm hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks Laura

There's a Birth registration showing as:
Birth year   1922
registration district = Freebridge L
Mother's last name -   Bullimore

This looks likely to be his parents marriage

Marriage year   1908
JOHN HUNT (born c1886) married Violet Bullimore (born c1889)
District   Erpingham
County   Norfolk

There seem to be five children born before Bertie at 2 year intervals with a gap between 1914 & 1918 at a guess I'd say maybe because of the War?

Births Jun 1910   HUNT William John   Loddon
Births Mar 1912   Hunt Winifred F M    Bullimore    Loddon
Births Mar 1914   HUNT Lilian N    Bullimore    Loddon

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the birth place of Ann Norton is. She's the last entryon the page. The transcription says Middlesex, London but it doesn't look anything like that to me. Hoping someone will have more luck than me.

The 1850/51 Post office directory shows a list of names and professions/businesses at the address. You can see it here :

I've had a quick look for you and found this entry in the Scottish post office directory for 1855/56. Are these the family your researching?

Shearer, Mrs. George, hotel and tavern-keeper, Stourbridge court, 210 Argyle street.

The address is showing as under the bridge at Central Station in Glasgow.

Hope this helps
