Thought I would put it up here for people who haven't seen it yet!  :)

I apologise if this has been put on here already but I can't see a thread.

World War One / Help with Charles
« on: Monday 27 October 14 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a relative who served during World War One, that I need some help with.
His name is Charles Henry Shire and he was killed on the 29 April 1917. When searching for his Medal Roll Index Card on Ancestry, I found this under his 'Action Taken' section. Does anybody know what it means?

The Common Room / Wills From 1996 Onwards
« on: Thursday 09 October 14 12:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I couldn't see this as a post and thought this may be of interest of many RootsChatters.

The Probate Service has made a search for wills and probate records, from 1996 to present, available on their site: https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

This may be of help to some people as the death index goes up to 2007. But you've got to remember not everybody has a will when they die - so you may not find everybody you search for on this site.  :)

WWII In Memoriam / 9 February 1943, Frederick William Newell DSM, 52, Royal Navy
« on: Friday 03 October 14 17:51 BST (UK)  »
In memory of Frederick William Newell DSM. He was born on the 23 July 1890 in Deal, Kent, son of Henry and Mary Newell. He joined the Navy before the start of World War One, of which he survived.

In 1915, he married Elizabeth Jane Phillips and had four children. One of which is still living so I won't mention them.

On the 1 January 1942, he was awarded with the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) for anti aircraft defense.

However, on the 9 February 1943, he died of Bronchial Pneumonia, aged 52.

Lest We Forget
