Lanarkshire / Tennent
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Can someone help me with this please. I know that Alexander Thomson married Mary Tennent in 1845.Mary's father was Alexander Tennent and I think she was an only child. They had a son John Tennent Thomson born 1847.Mary died about 1854.Alexander remarried but, did he marry an Elizabeth Tennent or an Elizabeth Murphy?I can't work out which of the two of them was his second wife.On the 1861 and the 1871 censuses there is an Alexandrina Tennent living with them and I can't work out her relationship to the family. This all takes place in Glasgow,Alexander was a journeyman baker. Any help much appreciated.

I have traced the burial places of most of my family but there are 2 that I just can't find. One is Edmund Wear,he died in Huddersfield in 1876,I have tried everywhere in a radius of Huddersfield and have found nothing.Any ideas please.
The other one that I can't find is Henry Joseph Masters. He died in 1886 in Hackney/Stoke Newington. He came from Chatham in Kent but he lived in Maidstone just after he was married in 1850.His 1st son, same name, died as an infant in 1851 and I've been told that he is buried at All Saints in Maidstone,so I wonder if the father was buried there as well.Any help appreciated

Kent / The Masters Family

The first thing I would like to ask is,does anyone know of The Black Horse Inn in Maidstone? If there's more than one,I'm talking about one that's been there a few hundred years.I found that an ancestor of mine was the landlady there, her name was Catherine Kennett and she was there in the 1850s as it's on the 1851 census.I think she died about 5 years later.I'd like some old photos or picture of what it looked like.I did contact the Inn but ,no reply.I've also tried the council but I'm not holding my breath.A society that deals in old Maidstone would, maybe,be where to look? Again concerning Maidstone,I know that there is a Henry Joseph Masters buried at All Saints in 1851 he was an infant, but I've been told that burials stopped there about 1850 and after that burials took place nearby. It's possible that the baby's father was buried in the same place,he had the same name and died in 1886.I've found it very difficult to get any info from Maidstone so can someone help please.

London and Middlesex / Henry Joseph Masters

Henry Joseph Masters was my great x2 grandad,he died in Hackney in June 1886.He was working at a coal merchants as a manager. He was from Chatham in Kent, born 1820,in 1851 he and his wife Louisa were living in Maidstone where their 1st son was born. The baby was given the same name as Henry but sadly he died and is buried in Maidstone.I have been searching for Henry Sr's grave for 5 years without success.
Was he buried near where he and Louisa had been living,or was he taken back to Kent? His parents os grandparents were buried at St Trinity,Mile End Road, maybe he's there.I've tried all the sights with gravestone inscriptions, burials, etc, etc. Please can someone help,I've run out of ideas.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Knowles
« on: Thursday 28 August 14 21:06 BST (UK)  »
My great gran was Fanny Knowles, born in Craike in 1859.Her father was Robert Knowles 1819-1867,his wife was Ann,Robert's father was John born 1779 in Todmorden.Because,Robert and Ann,both died in Craike it seemed logical that they were buried there but when I recieved a CD from York Family History Society with the graves for Craike and while there are a lot of Knowles in the churchyard of St Cuthberts non of them belong to my Knowles.
Can someone help and suggest where they could be buried.Thank you

Down / Easter(Esther)McCafferty
« on: Thursday 28 August 14 19:12 BST (UK)  »
This is a mystery that I have spent a long time trying to solve without success,so I'm hoping someone can help.
My great gran,Anna McCafferty, had a daughter, 1st Nov 1874 ,called Easter(maybe Esther after her mother,Esther Hollinger)The baby was born in Newtownards. The previous year she had,had a son,my grandad,,William James 18th March,he was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Greenwell St,where in 1877 Anna would marry Thomas Gunning, after she had another daughter, Mary.I don't know where Easter and Mary were baptized.By 1881 the family were living in Glasgow but Easter wasn't with them.
I have looked in all the places I can think of to find what happened to her, deaths in Ireland, deaths in Scotland, etc:.If she was adopted it would be virtually impossible to find her.I discovered that the wife of the couple that were witnesses at Anna and Thomas' wedding, was Marta Hollinger before she marred James Hagan.I thought that maybe they adopted her but I can't find any evidence of that.
I don;t know where else to look,so please can someone help please.
