London and Middlesex / Harvington School, Ealing 1890 to present day.
« on: Wednesday 01 April 20 20:40 BST (UK)  »
I am researching Harvington School it’s pupils and teachers. It was founded and run by the Misses Watson in 1890 and  named Heidelberg College after the home town of Miss Chrystobel’s  mentor, her German teacher. The name was changed in 1915. This is only history I can find on google.

I have in my possession over a hundred photo’s of female pupils and teachers, csrtes de visites and postcard backed and  normal camera snaps, many named and dated. Where possible I am researching them. So far have done 9. Most pictures are early 1900’s

My aim is to try an reunite with a member of the family. I have had a small amount of success with this sideline with other pictures I have purchased and returned to family.

This is an extremely long shot but am hoping to find someone here who perhaps has a past pupil or teacher in their tree, or maybe knows more about the school than I can find on google. As you can appreciate there are far too many names to post here.

That's a hat and a half ;D

Still researching my batch of pics from Harvington School, Ealing formerly  Heidelberg College   1890-1915 the  name was changed due to WW1.   Can anyone date for me and also how old do you think Mrs Turner, the lady in hat is?  Although its not in bad condition a restore may be good, or how about a bit of colour, although Its probably not very colourful.

Mrs Turner  replaced Miss Florence Watson in 1940 as joint Head with a Miss Emerton. . Florence  sister of the founder of the school Chrystobel  Watson was Head from 1892-1940.   I am trying to get a rough idea of dob for Mrs Turner  with a view to research,  she  retired in 1956.  However without a maiden name I dont think it is possible, or is it?

Luckily I have been able to do well with the Watson family research  and at least half a dozen of the pupils so far.  Its a challenge.

Any help gratefully received.

The date I am thinking 20's but as regards location not much to go on.  This photo was in a huge bundle I got from ebay and all pertain to Harvington School, Ealing, teachers and pupils,  ranging from early 1900's to 20's or 30's.  I believe this lady could be  the headmistress Mrs Turner and dog Timmy, or possibly another member of staff.

Its the best I could do with scan.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can this family pic be brightened?

As mentioned in a previous post, this picture is the only group one I have of mum, dad, me, hubby and my 2 boys.  Taken around 1985 as you can see myself, mum  and youngest son are in quite a bit of shade in the doorway.  I played around a bit in PSP with contrast which sort of worked but it looked washed out.

If anyone wants to have a go would love to see results. My wish would be to enlarge a bit and frame. So many happy memories of us all.  Sadly mum, dad and hubby are no longer with us :'(

The Common Room / William Redman died 1684 in U,S - i cant believe this.
« on: Friday 27 March 20 12:44 GMT (UK)  »
Lots of opportunity in these troubled times to get some research done and knock down a few brickwalls.

I have just come across something on WikiTree about one of my ancestors. Edward Redman my Great x 7 Grandfather born married and died  1676 in Sussex.  One of his  son's  William b. 1659 according to this site died in 1684 in the British Colony of Virginia.   Some of the facts tally but I cant believe he went to U.S.  Would this be feasible?   i know nothing about this site and am aware of the pitfalls of believing trees etc so need to check this out in case it is true.  I have sent an e-mail to the person who posted.

What do you all think?  Would there really be any proof he left England for the States?

On a purely coincidental note my Gt. x 4 Grandfather  emigrated in 1820 and I have proof of departure and arrival and much more.  However some of the information on trees of  this "American Branch " I can prove is 100% incorrect. So with that in mind not expecting a result.

I have a photo of my entire family taken on holiday over 30 years ago and it is part in the shade.  I have tried to enhance without success.  It has great sentimental value as it includes my late mum and dad and my wonderful hubby who passed away 2 years today.  It was taken on one of our many holidays in Devon and I have  happy memories  of all those holidays and is only pic of us all together.
Is it allowed for me to post and ask if anyone can do anything to make it a bit better. I would like to give copies to my boys.

The Common Room / Cause of Death Laryngitis?
« on: Wednesday 11 March 20 22:21 GMT (UK)  »
One of my ancestors died in 1879 10 days after giving birth to her 3rd child. I am puzzled by cause of death being Laryngitis Is this usual for the period? Her husband died the year before of T.B.

Kent / William Redman b.1879 Tonbridge
« on: Tuesday 18 February 20 17:56 GMT (UK)  »
Not much is known about William. He was orphaned when his father and mother died in 1878 and 1879 respectively.  With his 2 older  brothers he was placed in the  Union Workhouse in  Sandhill,  Tonbridge where he is found on 1881 and 1891 census.  Then nothing. At present I am only focusing on William.

I have found an Apprentice Indenture in Merchant Navy  which could be him, however the only details on my print out are name- William Redman , age 14 , dob abt 1879, Reg or Indenture date 3 Oct 1893, Port Ramsgate. My question.  Is there any way I can obtain more information about this indenture which may help to tell if it is him?  I believe it was common practice for boys from the workhouse to be taken and indentured in some trade.

I have searched in vain  but have found nothing on 1901 or 1911 census. It is a possibility he emigrated to Canada but once again not enough information is given on print outs I have found.

So any help as usual gratefully received ;D

Kent / Union Workhouse, Sandhill, Nr. Pembury, Tonbridge

Is it possible to find the records of these 3 brothers  admitted to this workhouse. Arthur John Redman, b. 1871.  George Edward Redman b. 1874  and William Redman b. 1879.  They  lost both parents in 1878 father John  and 1879 mother Mary   and were admitted to the workhouse.  All three found on 1881 census.   Arthur had left by 1890 to join the Army, he is well researched.  George is not found on 1891 census but appears  on 1901, 1911 and 1939 register in Liverpool.  William is still in workhouse on 1891 census. If I am correct in 1893 he was indentured as apprentice in merchant navy for 6 years .

I have tried google searches with no luck.  I find it strange they were admitted to workhouse as they had a large family of well off relatives.  In face in later life Arthur lived with his Aunt and actually took her married surname for a while and then married his cousin, but thats another story.

It is also highly unlikely William is the son of John Redman.  I have death certs for mother and father and am awaiting William's birth cert.   That's another avenue to explore.

Any information on George or William would be gratefully received.
