Family History Beginners Board / Photo.
« on: Thursday 12 September 19 14:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone.
I'm not exactly sure where to post this or what site I should be using.

What I'm trying to find out is where I can get the full details of a photo I have from when my mum was in Abergele in hospital. It was then known as Abergele asylum.
I'm not exactly  the age my mum was there  only for what my mum told me. Maybe she was told by her mum I'm not sure on.
My mum told me that she was in Abergele for 5 year's.  Most of the time she was on her back.and had a plaster cast from her waste  down. Up to half way down her leg.
Apparently it was due to a spine injury. Being thrown from a wheel Barrow.

The photo I have now I found last year.  If I had found it before my mum passed away she would have been able to tell me what I'm trying to find out.

Some where in the photo my mum is in one of the beds.  I'm not sure where.
It could be possible she's one of the girls nearest to the camera.  There's one lying down and has a plaster cast on her right leg.  Which is where my mum's was.

What I'm trying to do is find a clear copy of it so I can see if the girl is my mum and hopefully my auntie can tell me.
She as seen the photo and apparently her mum had the same one.

From what I can understand. My mum had light colour hair when she was younger.

So if there's anything anyone can help me with I really would appreciate it.

Thank you again for your time and help.
Dorothy

Ps
I got the photo off pintrest. And put Abergele. I didn't even know about the photo had any connections with my mum.
I just wanted to see what the hospital was like.
Thank you again for your help and time.

Lancashire / manchester local photo collection
« on: Saturday 23 February 19 09:50 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning everyone.

1st I would like to apologise if i'm putting this post on the wrong part of the group.
2nd  I would like to ask if there is anyone who can point me in the wright direction for a link as I have tried manchester local collection. There are so many places I don't know where to start.

What I'm trying to find is a area and houses where my great gran lived  and also where my gran lived before she was married.  I understand there might not be any numbers on doors. How ever I was kindly sent a photo of an area where my gran lived.  On the photo  it has 2 numbers on the front of the buildings. One was 171 upperbrook street cholton on Medlock Manchester and number 98.
The address I'm looking for is 192 upper brook Street cholton on Medlock Manchester. That is where my gran lived before she married my grandad.

The next one I'm looking for is 59.Rusholme road cholton on Medlock Manchester.
That is where my great gran lived before and after she had my grandad.
Apparently she moved to sale in wythenshawe  some years later after my grandparents got married. I'm not sure what year.

If there's anything anyone can help me with I really would appreciate it .I just keep going round in circles.

Thank all for your time and help.

Armed Forces / My grandads army record's
« on: Sunday 09 December 18 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
Can anyone tell me how long it takes to  receive  army record's from when you apply for them?

I applied for my grandads army record's on the 21st of November. I sent  everything off to the army record's department in Scotland.

I've been trying to get answers from them.to see when I will recieve them. But I'm not getting any replys back.
My hubby says he hopes it's not one of these places where you get conned like a fake place.

I told him I have the address on the letter and the form where I was told to send everything to.

If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you again for your time

Ps
I received a email from the army record's department in Scotland afew months ago just before I started to save up for my grandads army record's.

By the sounds of it. They might have my grandads army record's.
What I don't understand is this. If they have his name and date of birth. Why is it taking long.?

I have  attached a copy of the email I received. Hopefully someone can help?

Thank you again.

World War Two / Help with Grandads Army Record A.E. Jones
« on: Friday 07 December 18 01:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
I'm in need of some help or advice.
I don't know if anyone can help with this. But I thought there is no harm in asking.

A few weeks ago I applied for my grandads army record's. I sent a email to the army record's department in Scotland about the form I had to fill in. Because I was confused on which parts  even though  I  read it over afew times.

I also received a email from the army record's department in Scotland. Saying that they have a A.E Jones dob 27/9/14.  On there file's . But cant be 100 % sure  if it is my until grandfather until they call up the file's.

Apparently  I'm classed as the living next of kin because he's my grandad .
I have sent 2 emails  to them asking about my grandads army record's. Just to see when I will recieve them .and explained about our post man usually  post's  letters in the wrong doors..

I haven't had any replys back from them.

So I thought I'd ask if anyone can help me on this?

Because  it is a lot of money for me especially when it was my birthday money.
I don't mind spending  money on something I want.  I only hope  that the one they have on file is my grandad.
If it isn't  I have lost my money.  Even though they said they wouldn't except any payments until they have the correct one .
Which is confusing  because on the form  it says if unsuccessful there don't refund money.

Please can anyone help me with this?

Thank you again for your time and help

Family History Beginners Board / Confustion
« on: Saturday 22 September 18 12:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
I'm slightly confused about something.  Can anyone please explain something to me. I might sound a bit daft.
But I just can't seem to get round this.
As everyone knows I've been doing my family background for a while now. And with a lot of help I've found out alot about my family which I had no idea about.  When I got my grandparents marriage certificate.  It had my grandfathers   dad's name on. Which began to confuse me the reason for that was because  my grandads birth name is Alfred evan Jones.  His mum's name is Frances Jones.  Which would be obvious.  Even though  she wasn't married before or after my grandad was born  on my grandparents marriage certificate it says the name of my grandads birth father.  Which is john jones.  I know there's a john jones in my great gran Frances Jones family  but it was further on before she was born.  John jones  the one I know about  is the son of James Jones who married a lady called mary Taylor in 1927. They had 3 son's  George. John and Peter.

This is where I'm  slightly confused.
I have been told that  my grandads father was found in the bathroom. I assume he passed away.  He was living with my great gran Frances Jones.  But  she wasn't married to him.  So how can it be possible

That my great gran Frances Jones has the same surname Jones as John jones  if they wasn't married?

And also  acording to what I've been reading.  John jones  is my maternal great grandfather. And my great gran Frances Jones is my maternal great granmother.

I have been told that john jones is my great grandad.

I don't even know what the difference is between  maternal and paternal.  I was told what it was but I just really can't  remember.

If there's anyone who can help me with these I would really appreciate it.
Thank you all again for your time and help.

Hi everyone.
I'm in need of some help.  There's a few gaps  I don't know. And I can't find out.
WhatI'm trying to do is find.  My husbands  great gran. And also  when his gran got married and who her husband was.
1st I will start with my husbands mum. She was born irene miriam ditchfield. Born 29th of September 1920.
Her mother's name was Elizabeth  Riste.  Elizabeth  married  Mr ditchfield.  I don't know   his 1st name. Or when they got married. Or when he passed away.

I'm also trying to find out who Elizabeth Riste  mum was.  I don't think she had any other children.  Elizabeth. Had 2 children.  Samuel ditchfield. And irene miriam ditchfield.
Irene  married  Samuel lucas.February 1940. They had a large family.  My husband  is one of them.
All I know  is that my husbands  parents  came from Manchester.  My husbands  mother's  father  was  African.

The last address I know of Elizabeth ditchfield  was 6.Augustus close moss side Manchester.  She was a widow then.
She passed away 1979.

I'm really stuck on Elizabeths  parents. And her dob extra.
If anyone can help me. With any of these. I would really appreciate it.  I'm trying to do my husbands  family background.

Thank you again everyone. I really do need help.

Thank you again.

Family History Beginners Board / Need of help with something completely different
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 12:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
As you can see.  I am in need of some help with something completely different.
I have been trying for the last few weeks to find out something  which neither I knew about or my husband.
And hopefully  someone  could please help me.  I have  no where else to ask.  So I thought why not ask the ones who have kindly helped me with my family background.
What I'm trying to find out is if possible.  Is when  my late mother in law passed away and when  was her funeral.
My husband and I  only found out about  this 2 year's after  she passed away. All we know is she was put into a home not long after her late husband  passed away on the 12th of August 1999.

If there's anyone who can help me with this  I would be very grateful.

My mother in law  was born  irene miriam ditchfield. 28th of September 1920. She married  Mr Samuel lucas February 1940. All we have found out is she is buried in southern cemetery Manchester. With her husband.  Along with some of the other members of the family. But different graves. There is a Elizabeth ditchfield.  She is my husbands gran mother.  And there is a linda  and Darren lucas  there my husbands sister and adopted brother.  Somewhere in the cemetery  is buried a baby  girl called aidrian. She died due to a spine problem. She had  spinabifida.  We don't know where she is buried. It's possible  she could be with  my husbands  gran /great gran.

Anyway I hope someone can help me with this I'm only asking for help to help my husband.  He doesn't know how to go about this kind of thing.

I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you again for your help and time

Minnies  birthday  is 23rd of may 1901. And there  Bertram  Johnson .his birthday  is 2nd of August 1892.
He was born  in Hyde  his parents  are George  Johnson  and Mary Johnson  mary Johnsons  maiden name was Hoffman.

Please  can anyone  help me with this?  I am completely stuck.  I don't know where else to  look  I've even  tried the electoral roll & electoral register. Yesterday  when I was in manchester.

If there's anything anyone  can help me with I would really appreciate it.
As I've mentioned  I've tried. But I'm now stuck.  I can't  even find a  birth certificate  for Minnie Johnson.
