Hi,
I think I might have found that in 1955 she may have gone to the USA from Southampton.

Any help on passage would be helpful.

On her inbound from South Africa she used Margaret Luke only on the Passenger List.

Holly,

Many thanks for your link.

With my limited knowledge of it's system.

I could not find any confirming details.

As she was in Uganda at a time of it's history she may have received some honour from the Civil Services.

Whilst I see she returned back to England
1954 Incoming from South Africa Union Castle Kenya Castle 21st Feb 1954.

It may have been on her return that an honour was granted.

I have no further information on her If she married, emigrated or death.

Maybe help will come from other members.

But thank you again for the link.

Hi,

I am being told by my family that the person above was awarded the MBE. In her work she travelled to Uganda as a Secretart (stated on incoming passage 1954)

Then living in Kenton, Middlesex.

How can I find that this was awarded to her?

I have deleted the date of death as I was incorrect. She returned from Uganda in 1954.

Many Thanks,

Clive

Europe / Re: France in 1870

Jorose,

I am grateful for your reply and the depth of the information.

The family were Farmers by profession and the story of France appears to be the Male went to France who knows why as a Farmer. Then finds a wife (by marriage in UK) the story is that it was a necessary arrangement.

In the period I am writting about is after the period of Naval fighting with the French. It appears a interest in UK males to travel to France and have children with "British Subject" on their Birth Certificates.

Hi,

Having researched my Family Tree I find in some Censuses that there is a Statement"France British Subject"

I am sure Britain was still a little aware of France and the Prussian War was ongoing or near.

I recently read another request on the reasons why their family or man was in France.

Why did English travel to France in those days? Was it Army or what.

Hi, Having difficulty with the following people.

Eliza Smith b 1814

Mary Ann Smith b 1803

John Smith b 1805

In JCLS (Family Search)I get the information on Eliza as MM9.11/NBDX-JH7

I try with Ancestry and get no information on any of the 3 above.

I am trying to get their Birth records.

The Father and Mother are David and Mary Smith.

All born I believe in Barton le Street.

Firstly why Family Search can give info but Ancestry can not.
