William Orr (b abt 1815 in Kilmalcolm, Renfrewshire)

Don't census records show him as born c1822/23?  As his first son was named Hugh it is likely to be the name of his father.

ORR, WILLIAM

Parents: HUGH ORR/JANET MCKENDRICK

Hi all, I have a 3rd gr aunt Elisabeth Salmond 1818-1885 who married William Orr (b abt 1815 in Kilmalcolm, Renfrewshire)  in 1844in Kilbarchan, Renfrew.  I lately have a lot of DNA matches with Orr in their tree, Tennant and Vallance and Orr seems to be the link.  One of my gr Uncles had Órr'as his middle name.  I would like to try to build out my William Orr to see if any other branches actually somehow become into my direct line but am having trouble trying to find who William's parents are.  I believe he was still alive in 1901 as he is father in law to Robert Cross who married William's daughter Elizabeth Orr.  They are living in Cadder in 1901. Each of the 51, 61, 71, 81 91 and 1901 census give Williams birthplace as Renfrewshire around 1815.  I have searched Scotlandspeople for deaths between 1901 and 1920 and there are 4.  The Cadder one looks promising in 1910 - mother's maiden name McKendrick, however I cannot find any births for a William to that mother.  The other three possibilities are 1910 Corstophine, mother;s maiden name Bishop, 1903 mother's maiden name Clouston and 1902, Ayr, mother;s maiden name Morrison.  None of these names appear as birth mothers in a Scotlandspeople search from 1800 - 1820 in Renfrew, nor outside the area.  Has anyone got any ideas on this?  Grateful for any advice.  Thanks in advance.  Anne  (PS The family seems to have lived in Renfrew, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Stirlingshire.)

Hello, I am trying to determine the parents and grandparents of Lauchlan/Lachlan McKinnon (my 3rd gr grandfather) who from my searching over the years I believe was born around 1820 in Morven, Argyleshire.  He married Elizabeth Howe in 1849 in Dunbartonshire and their children were born in and around Glasgow.  I believe I have the right death cert for Lachlan - 21 Dec 1865 in Glasgow where it says his father's name was Hugh and 'Mary' for his mother.  I have a Mary Morison in my tree as the mother, but not certain she is the right Mary. Thank you for any help.

I have a:

John Young married Margaret Edward or McQueen
children:
Janet Young
John Young 1767-1806 (stotfield disaster)
Christina Young 1780-1857 married William Scott 1782-1824
Hi, you mention above that John Young married Margaret Edward or McQueen.  John Young was my 5th gr grandfather.  He married Margaret McQueen and they had the children you listed above.  Their son John who died in the Stotfield disaster was my 4th gr uncle.  He married Margaret Edward.  My line through Young/McQueen is Janet b 1770 who married William Crockett.  William also died in the Stotfield disaster.  I haven't been able to discover what happened to Janet Crockett nee Young.

Hi i saw christina mitchell is my 2nd great aunt. Her sister catherine is my line. My mum has met some of your family. In
Australia.   I think my grandmother travelled from lossiemouth to Australia with them when her mother died....Cathypod....
Cathy I have recently discovered that when my grandmother took my father to Scotland from Australia when he was 5 - an Isabella Stewart was on the same boat also going to Lossiemouth.  I thought it odd at the time but Isabella was from Brisbane.  However recently I found the same Isabella Stewart coming back on the same boat with my grandmother and father and have found they were connected through both her husband, John Stewart, and her family, Smith.  When did your grandmother travel from Lossie to Australia?

Banffshire / Geddes, Grant, Clark
« on: Thursday 23 June 22 10:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello all - I have a problem with 2 Alexander Geddes.  They may be 2 separate people or just 1.
I have an Alexander Geddes married to a Margaret Grant in Deskford 6 Feb 1808.  Children were John 1808-1885, Alexander 1811-1899, James 1814-1866, Elizabeth 1816-1880, Mary Ann Innes 1818 and William 1829-1896.
I also have an Alexander Geddes married to a Margaret Clarke (1811-1884)  25 Nov 1841 Deskford.  Children Helen 1842-1913, George 1844-1871, Elspet - 1846, Isobel 1849, Catherine Macintosh 1852-1933 and Alexander 1854-1903.
People have the one Alexander having married both these Margarets.  I haven't been able to find a death for Margaret Grant between say 1829-1842 to try to prove this is the same Alexander.
If it is indeed the same Alexander, the one I have for these two women was born 1787 and died 1871.  Death cert says his wife was Margaret Clark.  Doesn't mention a first wife at all. His death cert also says his parents were James Geddes and ?? Iness.  However other trees have his parents as Peter Geddes and Ann Young.  I know death registrations are only as good as the knowledge of the person giving the details but this family really has me stumped.
I have an 1851 census at Deskford - 3 Craibstone - which shows Alexander 63, Margaret 40, Helen 9, George 7, Elspet 5 and Isabella 2.  Craibstone is also the place Alexander who says his wife was Margaret Clark, died.  1861 census - Deskford - House on Craibstone shows Alexander 73, Margaret 50, Isabella 12, Catherine 9, Alexander 6.  I believe the 51 and 61 fits the Alexander I have dying in 1871 married to Margaret Clark.
Can anyone throw any light on whether the one Alexander had two wives and two families or are they two separate families?
I do have another Alexander I had a query with but for the moment can't recall what it was. Be happy with any help with the above.  Thank you.
Anne
