Renfrewshire / Re: Birth in Gourock, 1915
« on: Friday 14 January 22 03:18 GMT (UK)  »
I have bought some credits and the birth is my man!  I never would have thought to look in Scotland, other than the 1921 census showing thatís where he was born!
Edward Shaul is in the 1911 census as a lodger in Gourock, marine engineer, government worker, torpedo factory. So obviously there for work. He and Harriet marry on Christmas Day 1911, in Sunderland. She is from there so it makes sense. Son Edward is born in Gourock in 1915. Iím pretty sure Edward S. is also the one shown in the Valuation Roll.
By 1921 they are back in Sunderland living with Edwards father (my great grandfather). Sadly Edward is now out of work.
So many thanks to all who helped, and the moral of the story is when searching donít forget to ďbroaden your horizonsĒ!

Thank you everyone.  I will get some SP credits.
Will I be able to see the Valuation Rolls using them, as well?
Iím not too familiar with Scottish records.

Hi - can anyone find Edward Shaul Nicholson b. 1883, Sunderland, in the 1911 census?

I have him in 1901, but cannot find him in 1911.

Thank you, Linda

Renfrewshire / Birth in Gourock, 1915
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 14:31 GMT (UK)  »
Iím looking for a birth that took place 28 January 1915, in Gourock, Renfrewshire, according to the 1921 census.

The manís name was Edward Clowes Nicholson, son of Edward Nicholson and Harriet Clowes. This couple lived all their lives, and married, in Sunderland, Co. Durham, and Iíve never been able to find a birth for Edward C. there.

Now this different birth place makes me wonder if he was adopted?  I know itís a bit of a long shot, but any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks, Linda
