Thank you for the link Jebber. Unfortunately no luck with anything online. Iím in Canada so unable to visit the Archives in person.

I have found a website for the REMEís, and will try asking them.

World War Two / Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

My uncle enlisted in the REME on 18 August 1941 and was with them until 17 June 1944 when he transferred to the Pioneer Corps.

Is there anyway of finding where they were posted during that time frame?

This man had mental health problems before the war, and an incident took place during his service which may have resulted in him being court martialed - ďfamily rumourĒ. Would any records of the court martial still exist?

I do not have his service record, but understand some of the information could be blacked out due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

My uncle died in 1956, after spending three years in a mental hospital, unable to function on his own.

Any information, or suggestions, would be appreciated.

Thank you, Linda

Looking for any further information on William Daffern age 33 (born 1866) in the 1901 census of Ansley, Warwickshire, and wife Annie (Lavinia Ann), age 31(born 1868)  William was a coal miner. Annie was born in Staffordshire.

Are they in the 1911 census somewhere?

Thank you, Linda

I have bought some credits and the birth is my man!  I never would have thought to look in Scotland, other than the 1921 census showing thatís where he was born!
Edward Shaul is in the 1911 census as a lodger in Gourock, marine engineer, government worker, torpedo factory. So obviously there for work. He and Harriet marry on Christmas Day 1911, in Sunderland. She is from there so it makes sense. Son Edward is born in Gourock in 1915. Iím pretty sure Edward S. is also the one shown in the Valuation Roll.
By 1921 they are back in Sunderland living with Edwards father (my great grandfather). Sadly Edward is now out of work.
So many thanks to all who helped, and the moral of the story is when searching donít forget to ďbroaden your horizonsĒ!

Thank you everyone.  I will get some SP credits.
Will I be able to see the Valuation Rolls using them, as well?
Iím not too familiar with Scottish records.
