     Re: 1921 Scottish Census. Following information from ScotlandsPeople website. "We will release indexed images of the 1921 Scottish Census on scotlandspeople.gov.uk and in the ScotlandsPeople Centre in the latter half of 2022. We'll keep you updated on progress via our digital channels." Normally this Census would have been released in January 2022. Assume it's later in the year due to Covid. This is the first Census my parents will appear on and I've been looking forward to it's release for a long time. Looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

P.S. 1931 Census. The 1931 Census Returns for England and Wales were destroyed by fire during WW2, but the Scottish Census still exists. I wonder if I'll still be around when that's released!
     

     From ScotlandsPeople. Agnes Gourlay/Gourley (listed under both spellings), other name *Carlyle, died 1887 at Hoddom, Dumfries aged 73yrs. Mother's maiden name Young. [Statutory Deaths 829/00 01]
     Agnes Gourlay and John *Carlile married 1857 at Dornock, Dumfries. [Statutory Marriages 819/00 03]
     Age is out but there's a death for a John Gourley, mother's maiden name Young, died 1887 at Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfries, aged 78yrs. [Statutory Deaths 837/2 14]

     Two more children born to Benjamin Holmes and Mary Blair. James Holmes and Benjamin Holmes, born 23/2/1823, baptized 19/6/1824, St Mirin's, Paisley. Also, another likely birth. John Holmes, no birth date, baptized 16/5/1819, St Mirin's, Paisley. Father: Benjamin Holmes. Mother: Mary Holmes. [OPR Births - Roman Catholic Church] ScotlandsPeople.

     Article in the "Daily Mail" dated 18th July, 1916, has a list of names under the heading, "More Wounded Arrive." The list of names, "belonging to Scottish regiments" includes, Royal Scots, Pte. John Waterhouse (17501). Can't access the whole article but I believe this refers to a hospital/ambulance train arriving at Glasgow. Date fits with the end of his first period of service in France.

     Although age is out, the Death Certificate for Ann Mackay other name McNeill who died 1894 at Shotts, Lanarkshire, age 51 years, might be worth a look. (Ref: 655/2 56 - ScotlandsPeople)
     Also worth a look is son Walter's Birth Certificate. Walter Mackay was born 10th October, 1855 at Bo'ness, West Lothian. (Found on A***try). 1855 Birth Certificates, the 1st year of official registration, carry extra information and should list birth place and age of both mother and father. (Ref: 663/00 143 - ScotlandsPeople).
