Hertfordshire / George Beadle (Benington) Brickwall
« on: Sunday 03 November 13 12:22 GMT (UK)  »

I am trying to research my maternal family tree and have hit a brickwall at George Beadle.

He married Dorcas Walby at Aston in 1802 and seems to have come from Benington, Hertfordshire born around 1781-1785.

There are a couple of George Beadles born around this time in Benington and I don't know how to find out which one is my relative and who his parents are.

Any help gratefully received.

Occupation Interests / Steamship Cook
« on: Sunday 03 November 13 12:03 GMT (UK)  »

Please could anyone give me some avenues to look into to find out which ship(s) my G-G Grandfather William Scott would have worked on, as on his daughters marriage certificate his occupation is steamship cook.

This would have been around 1870's-1890's and he lived in Glasgow.

I emailed the Glasgow Maritime Museum and have not heard back so not sure where I can go now?

Thank you.

Scotland / Thomas McCall & Jane (Jeanie) Boyle

Please could someone help me to confirm how many children my G-G Grandparents had?

I have run a search on familysearch and only one my G-Grandad Thomas born July 1891 in Ayr is showing.

It could be correct but seems odd to only have had one child in that era?

Thomas McCall (G-G Grandad) was born in 1856 in Ayr.

Scotland / Family research brickwall John McCall and Margaret Gibson, Straiton
« on: Monday 28 October 13 10:37 GMT (UK)  »

I have managed to get my family history back to a John McCall and Margaret Gibson who lived in the parish of Straiton.
They had:-
Elizabeth 1750
David 1758
John 1763

I cannot go back any further on either of them and would greatly appreciate some help and advice to progress this, I have used Scotlandspeople website to get this far back but not seeing the next generation back...  :(

Thank you.

Ayrshire / McCall Bakery Ayr
« on: Tuesday 22 October 13 10:58 BST (UK)  »

Hi, would be very grateful, if anyone has any photos (old postcards) or any information/memories about the McCall bakery in Ayr, High Street.

I have seen some entries in the trade directories of the late C19th.

I have been in touch with Ayr Archives, but no photos.

Occupation Interests / Shoemaker (Scotland) Iron face pressed into brickwork.
« on: Friday 18 October 13 15:27 BST (UK)  »

My paternal ancestors the McCalls, came from a small village in Ayrshire called Straiton and were a family of shoemakers resident there from mid C18th to well into the C19th.

The attached image is of a cottage with what looks like quite an old iron cast face, pressed into the brickwork, it has been mentioned it is the face of a souter (shoemaker) and marks the home of a cobbler.

Has anyone seen anything like this before and could validate this information?

Thank you
