In October 1812 George at the address you have given Jennifer was indicted as follows:
275.  GEORGE WINTLE was indicted, for that he, on the 6th of October , feloniously did forge and counterfeit a certain impression used by the Company of Goldsmiths, in London, in pursuance of a certain Act of Parliment, made and passed in the 4th year of our Lord the King, entitled an Act for granting to his Majesty certain duties on all silver plate, made and wrought in Great Britain, and for the making and stamping of silver plate, to wit, the mark of the King's head, upon divers silver plate, to wit, one silver table-spoon and one silver fork .

The evidence goes on and George is acquitted. Part of his defence was that he now lived in the country and had passed the business to his son James.

I also have George and James listed in various directories.

My dilemma is that do I have the correct James Wintle to connect with both his son Frederick Holmes Wintle and the Father George Wintle - Gent or Silversmith? Or, can they be one and the same?

any thanks for the responses so far everyone. I`ll try to explain the situation and see if anyone can help any further.
The family name I`m researching at the moment is "Wintle". I am trying to prove a link between Frederick Holmes Wintle born and Baptised in 1829, to James Wintle (his Father) born 1788 to George and Eden Wintle.

Frederick Holmes Wintle is shown as a Silversmith on his marriage record to Jane Eliza Turner.
His Father, James, is also shown as Silversmith on this record.
James`s father George, is also a Silversmith. I have various douments showing the apprenticeships.
However, on the Baptismal record I have for Frederick Holmes Wintle, his Father, James, is recorded as a "Gent".
Interestingly, on this Baptismal record, there are also two other children being baptised at the same time - both the children of James at the same address, but from a different mother, but that`s another story :-)).
I will try and attach the documents for you to see.  Just hoping  have found the correct James Wintle.

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of queries and hope someone can help please.

1) On the Baptismal register an Ancestor is described as a " Gent" (London Baptism). Could a person who describes himself as such also be a Silversmith by trade?
I have some pieces on conflicting information and need to clarify which is correct - or even if they all are correct.

Are you always "born to the Gentry" or can you reach that status by climbing the social ladder after accumulating wealth?
The year I am looking at is a Baptism in 1829.

2) Two members of the same family (husband and wife), both in their mid 40`s, died in January and February 1832 in London. Not having any luck establishing what happened, but have found that there was a Cholera epidemic in the area of London they lived in. This is a possible cause. My question is, does anyone know of any lists that exist of victims of this epidemic?

Very grateful for any ideas anyone may have.

Many thanks everyone....Jim1, the two signatures do look very similar, one or two slight differences, but who`s writing didn`t change after 19 years or so. As you say, he cites his Father as being Frederick Holmes in the 1907 marriage. The only mention of Eugene I can find is in the record of the first marriage, so, I am still puzzled as to why, but I am inclined to think that Frederick Holmes Wintle is Dad`s correct name.

Many thanks for the swift response. I tend not to use the family trees for information on Ancestry for precisely the reason you have given. However, I do use Ancestry to find the actual records. In this case the "London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921 record for Frederick Holmes Wintle" shows the register for his marriage to Mary Jane Rawlings. This record shows his Fathers name as Frederick Eugene Wintle - not Frederick Holmes Wintle as I believe it to be. Hence my puzzlement.
All the records I mention are the actual documents available on Ancestry.
I also use Family Search for information and can`t find any trace of Frederick Eugene Wintle on there either.

When you say the "original source" do you mean sending off for the marriage certificate?

Hi all, I`m currently researching my late Uncles family - Wintle. I thought I was doing really well and got back to George Wintle born 1758 and a Silversmith (with some interesting history). However, on checking through some of the documentation, I`ve come across an issue further down the line and can`t seem to resolve it. So, here goes.

Frederick Holmes Wintle born 15/3/1855 Baptised. 9/9/1855 City of London (St Giles without Cripplegate).
Record on Ancestry shows parents as Frederick Holmes Wintle - born 12/02/1829 (innacurate transcription shows Hohmes) & Eliza Jane Wintle (nee Turner from my records.) Eliza Jane is shown as Jane Eliza on marriage record.

Subsequently Frederick (b.15/3/1855) married his first wife - Mary Jane Rawlings in January 1882. The record on Ancestry shows his Fathers name as Frederick Eugene Wintle - Silversmith

This is the fly in the ointment as I have checked and can find no reference/record of a Frederick Eugene Wintle anywhere! The problem is that the name Eugene casts doubts on the rest of the tree being correct, but, unless I can find a Frederick Eugene, particulary one that is a Silversmith, I cannot be certain of the accuracy of the tree.

I think my question is that, is it possible the Registrar made a mistake and recorded Frederick senior as Frederick Eugene? Also possible that Fred senior changed his middle name for some reason? Or, is there a real Frederick Eugene out there? If so, it will change the whole upper branches of the tree....Aaagghhh!
Any help would be very gratefully received, as this is really causing me some grief right now!!

I have found a reference to Andrew on Family Search regarding his whereabouts in 1915. Correct address of Denzil St. is shown.
According to this record, Andrew was 33 years old in 1915, therefore he was born in 1882 approx.
