Northamptonshire / Re: The Union, Northampton

The Northampton Work House has for many years been St Edmund's Hospital in Wellingborough Road. This is currently derelict and the outbuildings are being demolished prior to the main building being renovated for other uses

Magdalen hall was renamed to its original name of Hertford College when it became a college of the University of Oxford in 1873 as Magdalen College had already existed for many years The history of the school should be found at the college.  I do however wonder why anyone should transfer from Kings College school now located in Wimbledon to another school in Oxford.  Are you confusing the schools with university colleges of the same name?

As I work back through the generations I start a new tree for every female direct ancestor.  I find this is the only way of keeping my trees neat and tidy.

Northamptonshire / Re: Old Stratford, Northamptonshire?

What is significant is that Old Stratford was not a parish at that time.  It only became a parish in 1951. Prior to that it was part of the old parish of Passenham.  It was always regarded as a suburb of Stony Stratford and so a baptism there is very likely.

Thank you for that.  I had him as Edward  Albert and was further confused by the fact that his birth wasn't registered until Q1 1864.

My wife's family is also descended from William, John's only surviving son. I am having a little difficulty in tracking down your Albert Edward, who were his parents?  I thought that I had a complete tree of John's descendants.

In view of the burial that I mentioned previously, I am fairly certain that you have the wrong parents for John but I have no alternatives.

Unfortunately John Edlin the son of John and Sarah was buried at St Mary's Harrow  23 Jul 1765.  We need to keep looking

Thank you IJ.  I have a huge history of the Edlin family and moving John's family to Harrow makes it more likely that he is related to the line that founded the main USA line.

You will get a much better response if you give your posts a more meaningful title.  Something like: John Reid Antrim then Glasgow.

Nearly every post on this site will be about family history.
