G'day HSFAM

Thank you so much for your post, I have only just found this site and cannot get over how helpful people here are.

Yes I have seen a copy of that, unfortunately it doesn't tell us much and yes that is my GGG Grandfather.

Thanks DOB7

It would then seem that if either of the Williams that you mention as marrying in Tiverton is David's Father it must be the one who marred Jane Dunsford in 1722 as the one who married in 1742 [unless they are the same William and a 2nd marriage] would be too late to have a child marryng in 1749.

I had found a William in Tiverton who was also a Fuller and suspect he was possibly David's father.

Can I ask where you found those marriages, as I have been unable to track them down. If you don't mind me asking.

G'day Fastfusion

Thanks for the hints. William Gorton's father,David, was a Fuller [a worker of wool], that we know from school records and seems to have been fairly well established. Though one of Williams sons also William, became a Clergyman.

I have really hit a wall though with parents for David, and only this week found the Ann, who may have been Ann Reed.

My 3x Great Grandfather was Rev William Henry Gorton, he was Rector of Chickerell and Vicar of Sherborne Dorset and died in Chickerell in 1830. He was born in Tiverton Devon in 1766, his father was David Gorton a Fuller of Tiverton.

We think his mother was Ann.

Can anyone help with tracking down, His mother for certain, and his grandparents etc.

I am in Australia and am limited to what I can find online.

Any help greatly appreciated. I have also posted this under Dorset.
