The Common Room / Re: Minister's name followed by others on registers - anyone know why?

Another I forgot to mention.

Mr Smith is the vicar but a couple is married (baby baptised or someone burried) by Mr Jones who is either related to the family or was vicar to one of them at an earlier date. IE Kath and John Marry in St Barts Smiths Church) by Jones who was John's minister even though they are marrying in Kath's Church.

There is one other possibility that I have found.

Mr Smith is vicar he may have an assistant who has filled in while he is absent.

When the Bardaster arrived in Sydney, he was reported as Mr GORDON again.
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article32163069 and Mr Charles GORDON http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article28653580 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article2539586 and C GORDON http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article31722672
Yep I've got that in reply #14 above.

Looks like I may have to get my hand (or eyes) on the inquest and/ or actual shipping list that says Gaston/Gorton.

Perhaps I should have said that I know with a degree if certainty that he arrived in Australia about this time.

I have him in England in '38 when h was promoted in the Navy, and he married in Sydney in 1840.

Really just trying to peg it down.

One of those little mysteries that don't amount to much but can really get under your skin.
