New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: photo of the On Chong Fruit shop Dunedin

Where can I locate a copy of the photo that was in the Otago Witness, 25 June 1929 :)
Another option is the Heritage Room of the Dunedin Library http://www.dunedinlibraries.govt.nz/ They hold microfilm of newspapers and I have found the staff to be very helpful.
A word of warning about the Otago Settlers Museum - it is quite expensive to get digital images from them.

The NZ marriage that fits names and dates is Mary Love and John McKay 1876 but I can't access transcripts

No transcription of the actual record, you have to purchase a 'printout' to see the actual register entry for the marriage.

I had mining ancestors come to NZ in 1867. There were many Assisted Immigrants to NZ and you can read about how to access the information at https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/New_Zealand,_Immigration_Passenger_Lists_(FamilySearch_Historical_Records

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Ancestry Sub increase

Please can someone explain what this means in (laymen's terms)?

"GST laws for overseas suppliers to NZ residents"

Annie

From the IRD website:
"From 1 October 2016 if you're a business that is not resident in New Zealand supplying remote services from outside New Zealand to a customer who is resident in New Zealand, you may be required to register for New Zealand GST, and return GST on these supplies.

Services that may require your non-resident business to register for New Zealand GST and charge GST on supplies made to New Zealand resident customers include online gaming, gambling, video streaming and music streaming services."

I don't think the overseas providers like Ancestry will be happy with this as they will not have any NZ expenses to offset against the income. It is going to cost them having to comply with this GST tax requirement which will obviously be passed on to the members in due course.

I read the press release as saying may not will , so there may be hope yet

It's official - I received an email from Ancestry this morning to confirm the 15% increase in subscriptions from 1 October 2016.

No doubt others will soon follow suit - Find My Past etc.

Ancestry subs for NZr's will increase by 15% from 1 October due to the new GST laws for overseas suppliers to NZ residents.  :(

Well done!! It would still be a good idea to contact NZ BDM so they can rectify their records 0800 22 52 52 (New Zealand only).

If you look at the source of the data on Ancestry you will see it is from "New Zealand Marriage Index, 1840–1950. Microfiche". This is a different data collection to what is on NZ BDM website. If you phone NZ BDM you could ask them to check their record. I had a similar issue recently and they were very helpful.
