The Common Room / Re: House history
« on: Today at 10:49 »
I meant to add that there are numerous mentions of Moreton House in Staffordshire newspapers over the decades -- too many to mention here. If you don't have access to Find My Past, try your local library as they often do have public access to the likes of Find My past; Ancestry and possible the British Newspapers Archives site.

To get you started:
"At Moreton House, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, on the 18th ult. aged 56, JAMES JOHNSTON, Esq., late of the Stock Exchange London and Campbelton, Ardersier, Inverness-shire."
Thursday,  Aug. 12, 1852
Publication: Inverness Courier

Very kind of you again Ladyhawk. So it is Emma, and not Anna LOMAS.

Still a mystery, but if it were my family I'm pretty sure I'd accept that for some reason unknown, Fanny has decided to go by the name Emma.

From memory, a couple of other threads too.

I agree, the death certificate for daughter Ellen BARFOOT could be interesting to see who the informant was.

I looked for Emma Lomas' death but there usually is so little information on deaths back then  that I cannot pinpoint her or where and when.

Ladyhawk gave you Emma LOMAS death in reply#69. She very kindly downloaded the certificate:

25th January 1927

Emma Lomas age 68 of 7 King Street Darwen widow of George Lomas, a railway Carter

Informant daughter Jane H FENTON of 7 King Street

Great find bbart. That certainly does look like the same man to me - same profession - carpenter (as on the 1972 electoral roll with wife), Australian born.
