I received and email notification that a topic I had started had been split into two by the moderator. I then received a notification of a response to that topic, but when I clicked on the link to the response, it only took me to the original topic that I posted with no response there from the new person who replied. (Hope that makes sense).

How do I find the new topic?  I hate to think someone has tried to help with my query and I haven't been able to respond to at least say thank you.  :-[

A few of these men are also wearing the same pseudo collars, a couple seem to have them on the back to front?.

Thanks for all your observations Maggie, I think the collars that look like they're back to front are actually 'standing overlapping' collars, like the one on the portrait of my g grandfather. I've been trying to do a bit of research about them to find out exactly when they were in vogue, but nothing definitive yet.  :)

Terraced houses on a slope (note the steps in the roofs) on the left, and a parade of trees on the right of the road.

The shoes are definitely odd, and significant. Some kind of sport.

Question: Is the location a big garden from a big house, or a square/park at the end of the road?

 BugBear

Thanks Bugbear, yes I might try to research the shoes, see what I can find out  :)

The statue of the man in the background looks to me to be wearing an early Tudor cap....is it possible to look at this in more detail...we might be able to identify the park  from having a Tudor gent in....have already looked at Thomas More, Thomas Cromwell with no success!

Thanks again for your interest!
Here is the statue. I might try increasing the contrast, see if that helps get a bit more detail - still learning here(!) but will need a bit more time to play around with it so will get back to it later today.  :)

You're probably right - the more I look at old photos the more confused I seem to get!

Interesting that the two seated young men are wearing identical coats.

Masons, hmmm, my g grandfather was a Mason so maybe I'm wrong and this is a photo of him. Here's a couple of photos of him from around the same time: one with, one sans moustache. Is there a possibility they're the same man (I've included the face from the group of the man with the medallion).

Thanks again for all the help!

Doing a little research about boater hats, I read that late 1890s-1900s ladies would often wear the straw boater for cycling. And I remembered another, much later, photo of my g grandmother which shows her beloved bicycle (which apparently she brought with her to Australia). So all things considered I think this could well be a cycling party.  :D

Thank you everyone once again for all your help and suggestions!
