Sorry about the above. Just for clarity, is this the 1901 census you have? In Llanllyfni with parents John and Catherine.

Others on here will be able to provide you with more information regarding South African records, however I have found this site quite helpful in the past. And some passenger lists are on familysearch.

Welcome to RootsChat dockmaster.

I haven't looked at this line for a while now. Dave gave me lots of amazing information at the time (thanks again Dave  :D ). I don't think I looked at Heinrich Theodor's family. Did they stay in Germany, or did they also emigrate? Nice to meet some extended family too.  :D

I agree, "Alice" with the dot for the "i" not immediately above, as shanreagh says, often happens in cursive.  :)

Can't help with school records I'm afraid, you may have already seen there is this item from 1948 about his receiving the Military Medal.

I'm not sure that he was claiming to be related to notables - the consulate contacted him.

Another article says he was "a Switzer, hailing from a French canton, but the family is of Austrian descent."

In the photo of the two sisters in later life I can understand what you mean, because they are sufficiently different looking to each other. I'm not sure though whether I think they are the same ladies in the first photo.  :-\

As Carol said, it is a really lovely photo.

I wonder if William is also GREENWOOD, though it looks like GREENEWOOD.  :-\

There are quite a few articles on trove that mention Antonio including the one you have posted which was from the  Kilmore Free Press, Thu 29 Dec 1910. None give much more detail. Although an obituary does say that his Uncle was an officer of the Papal Guard in Rome.

For interest, his job "formerly in the service of shire council" appears to have been as a nightsoil contractor ("dunny man" as they were called).
