Hello,

Looks like Edith re married to a Walter RADLEY in NSW abt 1925 at Grandville NSW div Walter and re married a George BENNETT at Rockdale NSW1944..
so maybe William died before 1925?
Cheers
Yonks

Thanks Yonks! Looking on the NSW BDM site there's also a marriage of Edith M Sutton to Harry W White in 1926 at Waverley that looks possible. Did you have access to other info that might indicate the Radley one is the right one?

Shame there doesn't appear to be a death for William in NSW that looks right in this time period.

Have you tried the freely available online Sands Directories from that era ....

City of Sydney :  http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/learn/search-our-collections/sands-directory

Cheers,  JM

I should have mentioned William's parents were Richard Luke SUTTON and Mary Ann SYKES.

Australia / what happened to William SUTTON
« on: Thursday 12 March 15 03:26 GMT (UK)  »
I recently discovered among my family photographs a page devoted to a "Sutton wedding" (my grandmother's writing) in 1922, which I'm assuming is of her uncle William John SUTTON. (NSW BDM has a marriage for William SUTTON and Edith M ERSKINE in 1922, although I haven't ordered the certificate yet to check that it is the right one.)

I know that he was born in Islington in 1893 and came to Australia with his parents in 1913. In the 1911 census he is working as an assayer's assistant.

Since finding the photographs I'm now wondering what happened to him. Can't find any mention on Trove, and don't know even if he stayed in NSW or indeed in Australia. Any suggestions and help would be most appreciated.

William Vincent Amey, photographer, died on 25 Dec 1909, but you're right, the business may have  continued under someone else. I don't have any further info on the business.  ;)

Probably doesn't help much but William V Amey was at 253 Commercial Rd from 1885 - 1908.

Is it just me or do children's shoes look like they're not made for left and right feet, so often look like they're on the wrong feet? ;)

That necklace certainly is amazing. A bit like this vulcanite (jet) necklace though even more elaborate. http://www.morninggloryjewelry.com/images/copied/imagesLZ/Victorian2/vict36319.jpg
I wonder if it was heavy?

Can,t help with the style of clothing, but A W Burman had his photographic studio in Bourke St from 1878 -1888. :)

Thomas Russell had his studio at Southgate between about 1890 and his death in 1903. Apparently street numbering started in 1895 (his cards then said "20 Southgate Chichester") so your photo is probably between 1890 and 1895.
Agree, nice brooch  :)
