I have found an appeal case for a distant relative. It looks like they appealed against his call up date. The council (I think) wanted his call up date moved by about a month so that the year end paperwork could be finished as no one else could do it.

Hi all.

Mothers maiden name was Severn. The children I have are John, Louisa, Ada, Sarah, William and Albert from the baptism records. Seems Strange that George wasn't.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / William/George Headland

Hi all

I have been searching my headland family and have found a branch that ended up in Denaby Main. I have found the kids baptism records on genuki transcription of mexborough Methodist baptisms. On there is the baptism of William headland born 02/06/1898, but I can't find any other information on him.

On the 1901 census, there is no William, but there is a george headland age 4. Not seen a baptism record for him or found birth record. The only other information I have found is for a george headland in the ww1 army records listed as being 19 in 1918 and from danby Yorkshire.

Is William/George the same person. I have found no other information so far. I have found info for 2 other brothers and 3 sisters so far.

Hi.

The guy in Motherwell probably worked for the Caledonian railway. The guy in Greenock could be one of a couple of railways. I would have to check where the records for those companies are. A lot of railway records are either at Kew, or the national railway museum at York.

The above link is for the Caledonian Railway society, who may also be able to help.

From TNA website
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D106628

Is it Ancestry that is listing it as famous persons  :-\
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=5111

Yes I think it was. At the bottom it lists where the collection it came from. It is listed on two collections, one says Canterbury wills famous people.

Regards

Jon

It actually says selected wills of famous people.

Hi

His name was John Potter Sargeant. He was a surgeon and died in 1846. There is a court case at the old Baileys from about 1864 in which the accused are charged with impersonation. I don't know if that was where the famous person bit is from or something else.

Hi all

I have found a copy of a will that is listed as being in the Famous People records catalogue. How would you find out why they were famous? I have searched for the person but can't see what he was famous for.

Hi John

Thanks for that. It confirms what I already have to hand. I have read somewhere that Hannah curry was born in Huntingdonshire (can't remember wether it was st Ives or st Neots).

I know that the family has moved about a fair bit as Thomas and Hannah's son Joseph moved to bythorn then brington, then brigstock before ending up in islip.
