Ireland / John Lando born in Ireland
« on: Monday 22 May 06 20:18 BST (UK)  »
On the 1891 Glasgow census there is a John Lando aged 26 born in Ireland could someone tell me how I can find a birth details of this person to see who his parents are and where they came from. We are searching for my Wife’s Maggie gggrandfather named John Lando who came from Genoa, Italy and went to live in Biggar, Scotland in 1850 at the age of 14. We have recently been told by a lady from Co Durham whose maiden name was also Lando (no contact details) was that he came to these Islands with two other brothers. I have found a Joseph Lando who died at Stockton in September 1891 at the age of 70, but I cannot find him on any Census to date. We are wondering if the father of this John could be our Johns brother.

Falkyrn,

I have this census and the Turrley's are my gggrandparents.  Andrews parents were Stephen Turley and Agnes Logan (from death certs) but this is all I have after 3 years searching.

My gggrandfather Andrew Turley (b1816 Airdrie/New Monkland) married Agnes Pollock (b1821 Carnwath) they had the following children, taken from census in Douglas and Lanark.
Andrew b 1845, Stephen b 1848, Isabella b 1850, Daniel b 1852, Agnes b 1854, Ann b 1856, Mary b 1861 and Thomas b 1865. I have only proof of  Mary and Thomas’s births, Mary’s birth cert states parents married 18th September 1843 at Douglas and on Thomas’s they married on the 18th May 1843 at Airdrie.
I have searched the OPR and other sources but cannot find any further information for their marriage or their children’s births. On their son Stephen’s wedding certificates he was married at Evangelistic Union Church in1870 and United Presbyterian Church in 1877 both in Lanark
I assume that the Turley’s originated from Ireland (my mother said they came from Cornwall and worked in the Tin Mines), could someone please advise me how to search the other Denominations.

Harriet,
Do you know what the connection is with the Oxford and Wallingford area Edinburgh's, also is there anyone researching the complete family tree. My mothers Mackness tree is being researched by several people, there are some 120 odd trees to date, one goes back to 1460.
If you look on the www.oldbaileyonline.org site you will find a John Edinburgh sentenced to death in 1763 and a Peter Edinburgh sent to Ausralia in 1813. I am trying to find a family connection.

Thanks Pennie,

I was certain he was my gggrandad. I have got the 1851 & 1861

Census for the London branch but did not think to look at Oxford.

I will have to wait for the 1841 Oxford census to be online to see

if the parents Thomas Edingburgh and Sarah are alive.
