Hi all,

This is my great grandfather Joseph. He was born in 1886 in Wicklow, Ireland but emigrated to Liverpool between 1902 and 1910. I'm wondering when this photo might have been taken?

Wicklow / Petty Sessions explanation?
« on: Monday 06 July 20 15:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I found this entry into the petty sessions records for my ancestor James. He was accused of assaulting a sheriff's bailiff when the bailiff tried to take away a cart or a donkey or something? And something about a civil sell decree? Can someone explain to me what's going on here? Does this mean that James was perhaps struggling to pay, and so his things were taken away to be sold?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Died of burns?

Hi all,

Attached is the death registration of my great-great aunt Jane. She died when she was just 4 years old in 1895 when she died. Does her cause of death say 'burns 17 days'?? Would this mean she maybe fell against the fireplace or something? I can't find anything in the newspapers of the time.

Wicklow / A Peg jobber?
« on: Sunday 05 July 20 18:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

My ancestor was described as a 'dealer' in the Fitzwilliam estate records of 1839. He was then described as a 'peg jobber' in 1848, 1850 and just a jobber in 1868. What kind of job was a 'dealer' and 'peg jobber' at this time in Wicklow?

Armed Forces / Place of death?

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what happened to my ancestor James. Under the 'date and place of death' section, does it say 'gen hos' as in general hospital? I know he 'died of his wounds' so I assume he was hurt in the battle of ginchy on 9th September and died a week later?

Can anyone make out the townland where 5x great grandfather came from? It was somewhere in Fermanagh, but I have no idea what it says.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause of death?

Hi all,

I need some help determining what the cause of death was for my 2x great granny. I know the first bit is hypertension, 10 years - but what is beneath that?

Hi all,

Can anyone decipher what my great-grand aunt died of? I can't make out the word, I've never seen anything like it.

Ireland / Family feud over land?
« on: Saturday 04 April 20 12:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm researching a family from Donegal/Fermanagh who ended up in the Encumbered Estates Court in 1854 and I need help understanding what's going on!

As you'll see in the photo attached, there were a lot of 'owners' of this land - I've done the research and these people are all cousins (the Givens, Achesons and Seavers). I think the whole encumbered estates thing has to do with estates going bankrupt after the famine, but what I'm unsure of is if this family is fighting over land or what? Why is Charles Seaver singled out as a petitioner? He was the eldest of the cousins and all other cousins were girls (bar one other boy who I think was the youngest of all the cousins). Do you think he was trying to claim the land or something?

I found reference to a 'Seaver v Given' case about this time in the 'Rolls court' but I cannot find any further information than that so I don't know what that means.

Can anyone help or advise?
