the McMartin sibling with no English sent me her DNA inheritance from each parent
The Scottish 25% is entirely from paternal side

Both parents had some Germanic and some  french

I think that's probably common  in states near Canada

I prefer edgier detective shows .I wasn't as impressed with Shetland this last series tho I do like Ashley Jenson as an actress...prefer her in comedies .

It's Wolf Hall tonight !

Tnen bed as I've had toothache leading to headache since last night .+ No painkillers in flat .!

I'm feeling pleased with myself as I decided to put some things for sale on a Facebook community page . I've already sold some vintage ladybird books .A stool that a friend padded and upholstered and possibly some vintage clothes .

Yippee .I will be able to buy a month's ancestry subs with. DNA  protools extra and maybe a month's subscription to a newspaper site !

Glen how long ago did you test ?
Initially Irish Welsh  and Scottish were less well defined and there was no Cornish
If you have ancestors s from isle of Man or isle of wight  ....they may have particular markers in DNA but get out into wrong box

I suspect your present amounts are more accurate..have you found Irish grandparents and what ethnicities did you gain when you lost the IRISH.  ??

I know what you mean Glen  but occasionally a particular ethnicity is significant. My mother has 1 Jewish grandparent & 1 Welsh grandparents
1 Scottish great grandparents and links to matches with 90-100 percent of those ethnicities and shared matches do descend from their ancestors

Occasionally new definitions turn out to be significant
A friend has Cornish father + Welsh African mother. Matches are specific to Ghana + Congo and Cornwall shows up in matches

I'm hoping that this Germanic ethnicity will show up in matches
To someone who doesn't know her father and we.ll be able to narrow down grandfathers line I think I've identified the paternal grandmother

I'm colour coding paternal matches that have germanic when I see them

Molly C
I M very impressed by that .
In the early 1960's my father learnt German using  an audio method

my sisters + 1 aged about 3 5 and under 7 Learnt

"Um de ecker"
&
Klaus das is nicht viktic ( spelling)

2 sentences that stood out for us

Meaning
 "round the corner "
The second was in answer to the question " is she pretty ?" + Was said indignantly
"Klaus that isn't important " !

My french penfriend+ I met when I was eleven . I'd stay with her family for a month every other year til I was 19 & Stayed in touch
Their phone number had a 3 digit sequence that was the same as my home number.
20 years later on an unplanned trip to Paris I managed to dig the whole number from memory
(not sure how many digits )
But in English not french

I've had my current mobile phone for at least 8 years and still don't know the number !
Memory is indeed variable

Thanks biggles the DNA matches are in Michagen  but the lumberjack ancestor used to go across the border to work in Canada and lived there with a family at some point.

I don't know if the Scottish gold miner
W3nt to USA on his way back to Scotland

I know this is controversial but I'm having a go at using ethnicity to pinpoint mutual ancestors

As many of you know Im a fan of using regional differences

CASE 1
I've been trying to find the link between a Scottish gold miner who went to Canada and a lumberjack s family on the border of USA.

At first sight it's not very hopeful
As there is a big variation between 4 siblings

They are 26-43cm matches with me
I believe they are.  half 2c2r ancestry predicts

They all have french & Germanic from mother's side

My paternal  aunt has mostly Scottish but some Irish

These are the 4 siblings DNA percentages

Scottish 38%   37% . 25%. +2%
Eng         28%.   6%.    0%.   26%
French  31%.   31%.  55%.   55%
Germanic 4%   14%.  17%.  17%

I'm not sure that looking for their cousins with Scottish percentage is going to help with this one

CASE 2
Someone looking for bio father whose DNA should  be Irish with about 6%germanic
I've built a tree from mutual matches+believe I've found one paternal great grandmother
+ Am colour coding any matches with Germanic

I'm trying protools for a month

Finding it quite exciting and hoping it will help explain relationships to matches of an adoptee that I am helping.

Also there's a group of siblings who I've corresponded with before .
We helped a mutual match who was an adoptee it's nice to see that they now have  recognised relationship with her  3c and with her birth mother 2c1r

Their cm.match.to my  aunt  ranges from 26cm to 43cm relationship

3 possible Predicted relationship including 3rd cousins
But 2 of the siblings have predicted relationships as a generation below is
3c 1R
