Another go…

Put Caleb Bell into the name slots.

Put Quebec, Canada in the place where ancestor might have lived.

Put 1939 as year of death and Quebec, Canada as the location for the death.

View the record that comes up in the Drouin Collection, not the death register.

You need to then back click from the image using the arrow on the left side to get to David. 2 clicks should do it, David is on the left page.

Hope this one works.

Added: until I posted I didn’t see that Sandra posted the image for you….it didn’t show in the red notice.

OK, then..

Look up the marriage of Stanley William Larman 1924 Quebec, Canada and click on the image.

St Aidan and the year should appear at the top.

Click on the year and scroll down to 1939 and click on it.

Then go page by page through the 1939 records using the arrow center right. The record should be on image 8.

Burial record for David…

At St Aidan’s Church, Ville Emard (an area in Montreal)

David Johnston, husband of Marie Nicholls, of 6257 Jaques St, Montreal P. Q., died at the Moores Home - Montreal on the fourth day of March nineteen hundred and thirty nine and was interred in Mount Royal Cemetery by the undersigned on the eigth day of the same month and year - aged 75 years. M Ellis (I think) Rector.
Witnesses Stanley Larman and Edward Johnston

The Moore Home appears to have been a hospice or something similar.

If you have access to Canadian records on Ancestry I can explain how to find the original.

Lots of reading for you. Great that someone came along who can clip the newspaper notices.

I have found the burial record for David. It does not appear to be indexed (or is not indexed as Johnston, perhaps). I will transcribe it for you.

The burial record for the Walter James Johnston mentioned by Sandra has his parents as David Johnston and Maria Charlotte Nicholls.

I don’t have full access to clip the notice but a death notice for David was published in the Montreal Star 06 Mar 1939. Basic transcription….

In this city, 04 Mar 1939, David Johnston, beloved husband of Maria Nicholls, age 75. Remains resting at the D A Collins funeral home, 5610 Sherbrooke St W. Funeral Wed at St Aidan’s Church, 2 pm.

No mention of children or other family members.

Ancestry does not appear to have the parish records for St Aidan’s.

FindaGrave does have both David and Maria Charlotte buried in Mount Royal Cemetery. Hope they can help.

On the subject of a death cert…

Civil Registration only began in Quebec in 1994 (yes!). Prior to then one will generally have a church burial record and I think that should probably be online for David in the Quebec records, given the year, although I don’t see it at the moment.

The link will tell you about the requirements for ordering a death record…it is extremely difficult to get one due to privacy laws.
