What's his year of birth?

They may not be neighbouring parishes but they are all in Pwllheli registration district.

If someone is born in one, but moves as a young child elsewhere, they will not necessarily know where they were born.  If your parents never said, what would anyone assume.  But then they could just have been told in later life.

I changed from one place to another depending on my mood - one was a very small hamlet which no-one had ever heard of.

In Wiltshire in 1899, as recounted by Sylvia Marlow, one of Winifred Spencer's sisters was sent home from Marlborough to Pewsey, pregnant.  Her Mother gave her a good whipping and took her to the Workhouse.
The justification was that if daughters misbehaved then the Father lost his cottage and his job.
She was 14 and had been raped by another member of the large household.
She was eventually found a place in Weston-super-Mare where she could keep the baby as long as no-one saw him.
When she married none of her legitimate children paid her first-born any attention.

A rather extreme case one would hope.

If one of your ancestors is Robert De Bank born around 1839 in Cromford, Derbyshire, he is in about 20 trees on Ancestry, so worth contacting the tree owners to discuss the matter.

Hi,

You could ask for this to be moved to the Travelling People group on the Special Interests board.

England / Neville Paynter Sheppard
« on: Sunday 10 December 23 09:45 GMT (UK)  »
In the North Wilts Herald in 1937 there is an 'In Memoriam' notice for Neville/Nevil Paynter/Painter Sheppard, having died on 24th March 1936, in Appleshaw, Hampshire, accidentally drowned.
His siblings put in the notice.  He was born in Cricklade district in 1883.

Can anyone see any report/information of the original accident?

Thank-you

Brilliant.

I tried 1897 +/- 5 years, not 8 years.  My fault, I thought that as her age at death fitted the birth year then +/- 5 years would cover everything.

I will have to look at 1921 again.

Also, F M P only has her as Pearcey.

One of my daughter's friends lived at Six Oaks Road.

Purkiss is quite a common name in the area - I was going to name a name but she is living, a Commonwealth silver medallist in relay team, I think.

Thank-you

Added: Mr Meffen was born in 1906 - might have been a reason why she made herself appear younger.

Have tried that, nothing obvious.

Hi,

The marriage to Meffen was in the December quarter of 1939....so post register.

I thought the sons would turn up somewhere even if she did not, but they are as elusive so perhaps both still redacted.
But I also thought that once I had her birth date I would get her, but No.
