I've had to put up with a lot of spelling variations over the years  but Gabbin??

A lesson for any researcher to keep trying outside the square when it comes to names

Well done on the courage to push through this difficult time

As above if you click on shared matches within the Ancestry DNA portal of your 580cm match you should have other shared matches you may be able to contact that has been ''on'' more recently

This may help you piggyback to the 580 - or it may give you information to start putting some parts of the puzzle together

Good luck

I wish you both success in your search

It wont be easy - especially as her mother has passed on

I think the best hope of success - and I dont expect a miracle - would be to investigate her mothers background as best she can ie ask her half-family about the places her mother came from and would have been at the time of your wifes birth

What do your wifes  ethnicity results say? Is that a clue? Are there many matches from ''outside'' these circles her mother may have that point in a direction?

ie you have a field of haystacks - start eliminating all those haystacks that werent in proximity to where the needle fell

Based on the info given and my approximation of his age - I would struggle to assign the 1835 person to this photo

This would make him approx 40 at the earliest time of Market St and that age is the upper limit I would put this person - I am thinking 28-36 range which is why the 1852 person makes more sense to how I view this person

Non paternal event OR a far event that has picked up specific Welsh gene marker

I have Welsh matches which I assume came from my GGGgrandmother (as a brickwall) or the borders were not as lineal as today

The Common Room / Re: Why do you or don't you put your Trees on Genealogy sites?
« on: Thursday 26 November 20 10:26 GMT (UK)  »

1. A record of family for those to follow -whether they choose to or not
2. Pride
3. To be told of all my mistakes which could make 2 redundant
4. To help others connect to me - and I to them

I think my tree is public and maybe has too much info - but we exist to leave records. I have a few brickwalls and had a lack of funds to search paid sites - I now have spare cash and those paid sites havent really advanced too much of my tree as is

So my hope is someone who lives in a country I need to have a closer look at records may contact me and advance my tree for me

Hi Sue

I live in South Oz and  have Macnamara in my tree - my paternal grandmother was a Macnamara

The first reference are to marriages and death notices that link

Catherine b 1828c - 1882 married Michael Hickey and I have confirmed DNA link
James b 1827 - 1887 married Bridget Gleeson
John b 1829c - 1875 married Honorah Tierney and is my GGgrandfather

In the marriage notice in SA BDM books James is noted as father of John and James

John died in Mount Catherine near Kapunda which links back to a Mount Catherine in Clare

Michael and Mary Tierney ( Honorahs parents) death notice say Tipperary papers please copy

That is all I have
