Anglesey Lookup Requests / Re: William Evans b 1829 Anglesey

Thanks again so much Alan, I have noted the Leeds District Registry details. Before I start buying certificates I thought I'd follow that 'little notation' of 10/7/83. Ancestry has a William Evans buried 12/7/83 (therefore may have died 10/7/83), Llangwm, Pembrokeshire, birth 1797. I am not sure of this William Evans spouse's name, but if it's Ellen this could be promising. I shall have to try to follow this one backwards a bit to see if I can find some details.
Donna.

Hi Alan, I had a look at ancestry at Catherine Evans and Robert Jones. Thanks, I'm noting it all but I am not sure. I've brought some findmypast credits, it's not got a lot more info, no images on the one's I've been checking. There are lots of w evans on the uk seaman section, at 20 credits a view!!

The notation is on a death certificate from Victorian Births/Deaths/Marriages, so it's a copy of original cert. I have enquired about it with them, they say it must of been placed there at the time, 1885, and agree that it looks like it's associated with father's details. I have not found any Arle in Wales either, only the river Arle in Hampshire, which is not making sense at the moment.

Alan I have made a post in the 'old handwriting and deciphering forum', it is called a small notation. I can't work out how to attach on this post. It is part of William (junior) death certificate, 1885, it has a tiny note right next to his father's details. It seems like a tiny yet pivotal clue which nags at me. I would love to hear what you think of it.

All of your information is very helpful, I am copying it all. I will take a look at that tree on look at ancestry, thank you.

Wouldn't a time machine be grand!

Anglesey / Re: New topic stemming from an old one. Evans family. Gaerwen

Thanks for the luck, my William Evans' mother was Ellen Owens and father William Evans, miner, Anglesey. He was born abt 1829, and went to sea as British merchant seaman. He emigrated to Australia around Gold rush era in 1850's.

Hi Alan,
Thank you, again. I have found a local LDS family centre, I'll visit this week. I'm looking forward to finding/ordering some of these records.
When I search the names of William Evans and Ellin/Ellen/Eleanor Owens lots of options come up. With sketchy knowledge all seem possible, but you are right Llandegai is a different to Anglesey. It's amazing to think that this may be the one that fits.
I have left a message on a post by Liverbirds, Anglesey board, (and PM) but no reply yet. Is that the post you were referring to?
Does the UK Merchant seaman navy records have details like parents names/birthplace?

Thank you very much Dragon. It does help, as I am beginning to form a profile of the possible families , with such sketchy beginnings it was always going to be less than straight forward. I have copied all of the above information. On William (jnr, who emigrated to Aus) death record there is a small notation right next to his father's details. I am wondering if it indicates his father's death date, it says 10/7/83. That small date makes me wonder if the above family is the one I'm searching for. He also notes his father as a miner when he married 1860, I see his brothers were collier so maybe his father stopped being a labourer and became collier too. William junior was a sailor when he came to Australia, ? british Merchant seaman. It is like solving a puzzle isn't it, with many pieces seemingly the same!
There is another interesting William Evans/Ellin Owens combination listed as married in 1828 Llandegai, son William Evans born January 1829 Llandegai, I would love any information on this family if it pops up on anyone's search.
Thanks again, Donna.
